I guess this was their back up plan:

Tadahito Iguchi-2B-Phillies Dec. 12 - 12:17 am et

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres and Tadahito Iguchi have come to terms on a one-year contract

A pretty odd choice for Iguchi. The second baseman wanted a three-year deal and was offered two years by at least one team, the Rockies. However, he's opted to take a one-year deal to play in the game's toughest ballpark for hitters, something that doesn't figure to help his value next winter. He'll be the stopgap second baseman while Matt Antonelli continues to develop.

I can't see why Iguchi would rather play in that park for one year, instead of getting 2 years in a hitters park with a team that has a brighter future.

Tadahito Iguchi-2B-Phillies Dec. 14 - 9:43 am et

Tadahito Iguchi's agent said Thursday that his client turned down several multi-year contract offers to sign with the Padres for one year and $4 million.

Iguchi is said to have had a two-year offer to play second base for the Rockies and a three-year offer to play third base for the Phillies. Instead, he takes a one-year deal to play in the majors' most extreme pitcher's ballpark. Like Ron Burgundy, he must think that San Diego is a very classy place.

Didn't the Orioles want Iguchi if they traded Roberts? Will this make them more hesitant to trade Roberts to us?

I hope so.

whats with the anti-Roberts vibe I have been hearing..is it Roberts himself, or what we would have to give up?

It's what we would give up for a player who is a DeRosa with speed.
