For Jake:

Brandon Inge-3B-Tigers Dec. 11 - 10:28 am et

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers and Pirates have discussed Brandon Inge.

The newspaper reports that "it's not clear if the sides have made any progress toward a deal." Inge has told the Tigers that he'd prefer to start somewhere else rather than be a reserve in Detroit following the trade for Miguel Cabrera.

Michael Barrett-C-Padres Dec. 11 - 10:05 am et

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that "the Pirates are interested in trading for" Michael Barrett.

However, the newspaper adds that the Pirates are only interested "if the Padres ask for little in return." Of course, that's possible given that Barrett accepted the Padres' arbitration offer last week and would likely split time with Josh Bard if he remains in San Diego.

Depends what we have to give up.

I'm not sure if Inge is better than Bautista. Certainly the defense is there, and with a couple of ground ball pitchers in the rotation, that could help. But, he hit 23-something last year, and Bautistat looked better as the year went on.

Catching is a crap shoot for us right now. Which Ronnie Paulino will we see for '08 - the '06 version or the '07 version? Will Doumit catch?

'06 version > barret.

barret > '07 version. (Jason Kendall > '07 version.)

Brandon Inge-3B-Tigers Dec. 12 - 10:50 am et

The Pirates are no longer interested in Brandon Inge, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

The newspaper reports that acquiring Inge "was ruled out by management as too costly," although that could change if the Tigers decide to eat some of his remaining $19.1 million contract in order to get a deal done.

Chad Durbin-S-Tigers Dec. 12 - 10:48 am et

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pirates are talking to the Tigers about Chad Durbin.

Detroit is looking to unload Durbin because he's set for a raise via arbitration, but he'll still be inexpensive enough to be a back-of-the-rotation option for Pittsburgh.

Ahhh, the Pirates. Huntington isn't going to be able to do anything with that team(assuming he's competent) as long as the owners won't go over a 40M payroll.
