FWIW, one of the insiders posted this about Bedard:

Also just received info that the Reds have up'd the offer a great deal for Bedard.

If they trade Bailey, Bruce & Votto for Bedard, it will take me a long time to stop laughing.

Wouldn't that just be so Dusty Baker?

1. Put quotes in newspaper about how you hate the fact that people say you don't play young talent.

2. Convince weak-kneed GM to trade/bury any promising young talent you might have in your system in favor of "proven" guys.

3. When criticized later, talk about how you would love to "play young guys, but I never had any young talent on my team to begin with."

Bailey, Bruce and Votto for Bedard would have Baker's fingerprints all over it. As would the resulting career ending injury Bedard will undoubtedly get regularly throwing 135 pitches in 8-0 blowouts all season.

Did our board ever go down during the Nomar hysteria?

I'm not positive but I think it did. It used to go down quite a bit. Thank Tim for his time and monetary efforts because it doesn't go down nearly as much as it used to.

It's funny to read their board and have dumb posters be like "NO PIE, NO DEAL." I don't see where they get off thinking Pie is even worth Roberts. There is no way we would put Pie in the deal!!!! Anyway just my two cents.

I apologized on all of our behalf for killing it, heh.

They're pretty nice over there. Which is why I'm not worried that all this is just being done to yank our chain.

Latest Roberts update from Belkast...

Deal isn't done yet...AM has said another team is in the talks and we are trying to get another player. I asked...Do you believe him? He said it's possible but AM tends to get what he goes out for. Take it for what's it's worth.

People are trying to figure out if it's a 3rd team as in another suitor or a 3-way deal.

This deal is never going to happen. First he says it's basically done, and now there's a 3rd team? Ugh.

Yeah, I'm always leery of the "done deal" talk.

Deal's not done until the guy is being introduced at the podium with a Cubs jersey and hat on.

I really don't understand why that's funny. If you are in rebuild mode, the guys you sell your talent for are guys who can eventually be an impact player at the major league level.

As it stands, the Orioles would essentially be trading one of their better players for 3 huge question marks. Matt Murton would be a nice platoon player with Luke Scott, but that's probably all he'll be since Markakis occupies the other corner outfield spot. And since Murton is RH, Scott will likely get more at bats. Gallagher probably slots into their rotation, but this is a guy who was going to be battling with several pitchers in the Cubs organization for a rotation spot. Eric Patterson? He "could" open up in CF, but he's got how much experience playing CF? Not much. Add that in with really no reliable info on how his minor league numbers will translate to the major league level, and I can definitely see why Orioles fans would balk on such a return.

HUGE NEWS!!!

Jonathan Papelbon said his dog ate the ball from the final out of the 2007 World Series.

"My dog ate it," Papelbon said. "He plays with baseballs like they are his toys. His name is Boss. He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces. Nobody knows that. I'll keep what's left of it." It would have been more fitting if the dog was named Mientkiewicz.

:D

Yea, I've been listening and hadn't heard anything either. Weird. Is he just making things up?

I guess they're reporting that Hendry is "trying hard to acquire" Roberts, so I guess it might just be an exaggeration and not so much a out-and-out lie. I guess.

Roto

According to the Baltimore Sun's Roch Kubatko, rumors of a completed Brian Roberts-to-the-Cubs deal have been shot down by a few sources.

A Chicago radio station reported that the Orioles and Cubs had come to an agreement. It appears that the teams have continued to talk despite Roberts' name coming up in the Mitchell Report and his admission that he used steroids. Sean Gallagher, Eric Patterson, Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno are candidates to be involved in any trade that gets done.

Did anyone see this? Orioles not likely to make a trade until after the new year:

http://www.examiner.com/a-1116058~O_s_say_no_deals_today.html

Rest easy Orioles fans. The holiday season is likely to pass without a major trade. Fan message boards were overflowing today with talks that the Orioles could deal either second baseman Brian Roberts or ace left-hander Erik Bedard by the end of the day. According to Orioles president Andy MacPhail, neither is likely before the end of the year.

“I would be very surprised if anything materializes between now and the New Year,” MacPhail said Thursday before sitting down to lunch.

I guess its time to calm down and actually get back to work.
