Nine year old (softball playing) daughter asked can a major league pitcher throw under-handed like she does when she pitches?

I remember Kent Tekulve, but that was a low side arm. by the rules can they?

Yep, as long as they follow the rules like any other pitcher. I'd like to see Jennie Finch pitch a baseball at 60' 6" and see how she does.

I can't remember if they put her at 60'6" or not, but I know they had a little competition to see how she could do against a major league hitter a few years ago. Richie Sexon got the chance to try to hit about 20 pitches from her. I think he made contact with 2 or 3 of them and generally looked awful at the plate.

Do you remember the softball team the "King and the court" the pitcher could throw strikes from second base.

She wasn't throwing from 60'6. It was from softball distance.

and he strikes out a lot anyway

If she were to throw a baseball from 60'6", my guess is a fastball that tops out around 80 with little movement.

Would a male with greater leg strength and arm velocity be able to hit the 90's then?

I would say yes. I've faced male softball pitchers who had no problems reaching 75-80.

if you could viably pitch underhanded at the professional level, some Japanese player would have done it by now

Wasn't there some guy on the Mariners a year or two ago with a sidearm-borderline-underhand throw?

They have as many pitches as MLB pitcher does, the drop ball and curves along with change-ups.

Yes, they do because it took them years to perfect them. If Jennif Finch tried throwing a baseball the same way she throws a softball, she's not going to have the same results.

You all remember the ending of Rookie of the Year? (Henry?) threw an underhand pitch to strike out some slugger. It was okay then... And he struck him out.
