Here's your lineup:

Soriano

DeRosa

Lee

Ramirez

Murton

Soto

Monroe

Cedeno

Hill

I'll take 4 more first inning runs, please. Thanks.

I think Lou has lost all confidence in Monroe as a CF, I expect this:

Soriano

DeRosa

Lee

Ramirez

Soto

Murton

Cedeno

Jones/Pie

Hill

In his career, Duke's BAA in day games is .322. In five day starts this year, his ERA is a solid 8.64 and opponents are hitting just under .400 against him.

Opponents are hitting .229 off of Rich Hill in day games in his career. This year, in 14 day game starts, his ERA is 4.19 with a BAA of .255.

If I were a betting man, I'd clearly wager on the Cubs in this one. Milwaukee is facing Smoltz, so realistically we could (and should) be 2.5 games up at the end of the day, thus reducing the magic number to 6.

Explanation needed....I thought FOX cornered the market on national Saturday afternoon broadcasts? Not that I'm complaining, but I didn't know WGN was allowed to do that.

It's probably because it's a noon start so should be over by the time the national game starts at 3.

Hill pitching for the Cubs + Zach 'Cub Killer' Duke pitching for the Pirates = 2-1 Cubs loss.

Zach Duke has made 7 starts against the Cubs in his career:

51.7 IP, 47 H, 10 BB, 12 R, 9 ER, 1.57 ERA

Dont you think he's due?

>_>

Zach Duke is not Roy Oswalt's wife.

I don't think.

I don't think that's it. I looked at this last year. FOX's contract allows them the exclusive TV rights for all games starting before 6pm on Saturdays.

Obviously there is some loophole that allows WGN to show the games. Perhaps it is that it's considered a local broadcast, which just happens to be on a superstation. Because, you know, all the local channels are still allowed to show their own Saturday afternoon games, of course. That's my best guess.

Nevermind all that. Rich, we need you today pal. We have a fantastic chance to shave two off the magic number today. Don't blow it.

I really like this lineup. I think DeRosa is perfect for the two-hole. Murton has hit Duke very well, much better than Floyd at least. Obviously, Soto being in the lineup is a good idea. I only thing I would change is Soto up to the number 5 spot and Murton in the number 6 spot.

EDIT: I just realized that this is not the real lineup.

This is Duke's first start in a very long time, so I'm sure he's going to be on a pitch count. Hopefully the Cubs can get him out of the ballgame early and into that Pittsburgh bullpen.

Thanks. Hopefully that's what it is. Although Monroe sucks. I would rather see Pie get a shot against a lefty, but then your last 3 batters are pretty much guaranteed outs because of Pie's very limited at bats lately.

The only reason I think Murton at 5 is because he's patient enough to take a walk in front of powerful Soto. Not that Geo isn't that patient, but I would still trust Murton more with guys on base in a high pressure situation. Either way, both guys can hopefully get a lot of playing time down the stretch and next year. That would be 3 minimum salary guys in the lineup, 2 in the rotation, and a few in the bullpen.

Wow, I would have thought Cedeno to have got the shot. But apete got the lineup almost exactly right.

Just win, baby.

I really, really want to believe. I want to be optimistic. But I can't. I just can't do it. :( Actually, I should say that I won't. I won't let myself, because than it will hurt so much if they don't make it.
