Lou why are you going to bun through the pen? This is stupid, just let Hart pitch

What's going on with Marshall? I'm guessing he's being saved for the DH but after that will he get another start or is he relegated to the pen now?

Haha. Did anyone just see that swing? Are you joking, Adolfo??

Did I miss something? Why is everyone calling him Adolfo now?

I forgot exactly who, but one of the FOX saturday baseball announcers called him "ADOLFO SORIANO" as he hit a 3 run jack. It's a mockery of that.

Agreed. Barring a miracle, this game is a loss. Treat it that way and don't use up your pen when you don't have a day off for two weeks.

hill had absolutely nothing tonight. but, for the most part, he didn't get hit that hard. still looked terrible though.

agreed the first 3 runs scored was all bad luck, the other 3 runs were pretty hard hit though.

so i see that yesterdays blown game is going to be the start of a huge, depressing downward spiral. :(

I don't see how people can say that - this is a ~ .500 team and is going to play this way nearly half the time.

I don't really see what that has to do with me thinking that yesterday's game is going to be the start of a big 5 or 6 game losing streak to finish off whatever little hope we had left.

I think its safe to let Eyre pitch. Its not like the Cubs count on him in close games anyways.

I dont know what his deal is, but then again Im one of the few people who didnt think he needed taken out of the rotation in the first place.

No doubt.

After tonights game, the bums will be 4-6 against the Pirates. AGAINST THE PIRATES.

Actually they have been, hes been good for awhile now, and Id rather count on him than Ohman at this point.

Another solid game from Soto...he's better defensively than Kendall and showing more power than him too. I hope he gets some starts.

If this team somehow lucks into a playoff birth, could they phantom DL Blanco and use the K-Rod clause to put Soto on the playoff roster?

The K-Rod clause only refers to a 60-day DL incident (position player for position player and pitcher for pitcher) and the Cubs have no position players on the 60-day DL. So, unless there's some way I don't know of, I don't think so. :(

I thought he could play in the playoffs becuase he had been called up in the middle of the season (Before Sep). Granted, it was only two games but that is enough to make him eligible, right?

A 6-game losing streak still keeps them close to .500 though. This is an average team in an awful division. They have laid stinkers like this before and will have a few more for sure.

Losing a game like yesterday also doesn't have to hurt a team psychologically. Many a team - even contending Cubs teams in the past have gone on after demoralizing games (think to 2003 when they had a few heartbreaking losses like that one in San Juan when Gonzalez and Alou muffed a pop up).

Anyways, I don't see the difference between today and a few of the putrid outings the Cubs have put up in the past.

He has to be on the 25-man on August 31st when playoff rosters are locked. For a player to be added who wasn't in the bigs (or the DL) on August 31st, he still has to be in the system on August 31st and replace a player who was on the 60-day DL (and both players have to be pitchers or both players have to be position players). That Soto was called up at some point in the season really has no bearing.

Talk about playing down to your competition in the division.

Cubs combined record against Pirates, Reds and Astros: 15-19 (after tonight)

Cubs combined record against Cards and Brewers: 16-10

Hell, if the Cubs were .500 against the bottom three teams in the division to this point, they'd still have a 2-game cushion on the Brewers.

Sometimes I question myself on whether or not I'm a loyal Cobs fan.

You're here expressing your displeasure. You're still loyal.

If they're going to not make the playoffs, I'd just as soon they get the pain over with now, as opposed to dragging it out into the last week, ala 2004.
