Funny thing is, thats just an American League record. What in the world is the Major League record?!

For all intents and purposes, it's the modern-day record.

The last time 30 runs were scored in a game was in June of 1897 when the Chicago Colts (now our beloved Cubs) beat some team 36-7.

See here for details. Note, to my amusement, how they list last night's game as Game 1, just in case they did the same thing in Game 2, I assume.

Does anyone remember this game besides me?

Yes! Kevin Foster with no win and a Todd Zeile sighting!

not to mention Luis Gonzalez

also - every wild game happens between the Cubs and Rockies - it's ridiculous.

games like this skew one's pythag record, eh?
Short term yes, long term maybe a little.

The statistic is meant to be analyzed for the big picture (Big N). I don't know how valid it is to use as a short term meter of success

Hmm, then let's put it to the ultimate test:

The Chicago Cubs are 9965-9442 during the lifetime of the franchise. Where can I get total runs scored/total runs allowed stats for the Cubs?

Yesterday's doubleheader took the Rangers from their expected record being 2 games over their actual to 4 games over actual. Considering they only won the 2nd game by 2 runs, that 2 game difference was caused by the blowout.

If your Trembley, what do you say to your players as they go bat in the 9th down 27 runs?

"OK guys, all we need is 27 to tie and 28 to win"

"C'mon Corey, we need baserunners"

Personally, I wouldn't say anything. But I think most guys still recognize the value of giving it an honest effort even in a sure loss. There's no reason to tank an AB and hurt your personal stats if you can help it.

Did the Rangers take out a lot of their starters and let the backups/kids play? There is something to be said for sportsmanship, too. You don't need your heavy hitters in there late in the game when you're up by 20+ runs.

I'm just merely asking, though, and not being accusitory towards Texas.
