"CUBS score 4.67 R/G overall.... 3.00 R/G when Hill pitches

"

This says a lot.

Score some for Hill, plz.

I think it says guys don't like playing behind Rich. He is slow, throws lots of pitches and really doesn't get the defense involved (Lots of K's and flyballs).

Whoa whoa whoa

I'm not saying anything like that, I'm just saying it might affect Rich a little pyschologically. He plays his heart out and the bats never seem to pay him any favors.

I know what you're saying. And I'm saying that maybe if he pitched a little faster (lower pitch counts, quicker innings) that the bats might pick him up more often.

What's that got to do w/ swinging the bats?

It has a ton to do with swinging the bats. Pitchers who are faster and tend to get their fielders involved more get better run support.

since hendry sat around eating krispy kremes all day yesterday...i really hope murton gets much more playing time now...he needs a big chance if we are standing pat...

also, i am hoping that soto and pie are given fair shakes too in the future, but i guess that will have to wait for roster expansion

I hope not.

wow waited over 3 years to make a post and he brings the thunder with the first post. I dont know why you would hope not about Murton, I mean seriously would you rather Jones or Floyd face a lefty? Murton in RF against a lefty gives us our best chance to win.

and you waited a mere 42 minutes to be a dick about it

Chill out with the namecalling.

You know what's sad? I'd rather face good Roger Clemens from a couple years ago, than a soft tossing lefty.

Yup. At least he throws strikes.

Modzilla have you ever thought about changing your avatar?

Why, is it too awesome?

I seriously like it!

Is ginger jesus gonna play tonight?

Just a thought for the line up if he is

Soriano

Murton

Lee

Ramirez

DeRosa

Theriot

Jones(yes Jones)

Kendall

Hill,R

No way Lou randomly bats Murton 2nd. Theriot has that spot solidified. Maybe Murton bats 2nd if Cedeno starts tonight at SS.

I was thinking the same thing and since Theriot's played so much recently I think it would be good to give Cedeno a day to play.

Are you sure about that? Don't you think the Cubs should get Murton and Theriot as many at bats as possible?

everyone needs a break once in a while and everyone needs plaing time.

I never suggested that Theriot or Murton play 162 games a year.

Oh really? Have you eve played baseball before?

Go ask a fielder how much they hate playing behind a Steve Trachsel type, then get back to me.

Here's the thing...if all we went by was personal experience we'd be confused about a lot of things. For example, it seems like everytime I'm frustrated with traffic, Nickleback starts playing on the radio to add to my frustration. If I just went with my personal experience, I would believe there was a connection between my frustration and Nickleback being played on the radio (for the record, I don't have any fancy XM stuff or do I have a cd player for my vehicle, so I'm stuck with FM radio). However, if I were to look at the broadcast schedule for the radio station, I would see the the playlist was planned ahead of time and they play Nickleback every 5 minutes, so I am bound to hear Nickleback at a frequent rate when I am frustrated. The times I hear Nickleback while already frustrated stick out in my mind due to the excessive levels of frustration they cause at that time.

...The moral of my story is this: You can't make arguments based only on personal experience.

#1 - That post was extremely confusing. The moral of the story helped however.

#1a - I didn't base one thing I said off personal experience. I was a pitcher, not a position player.

#2 - I said "Go ask a fielder". I have been told numerous times (and heard great baseball minds say) that playing behind a pitcher who is slow and doesn't get the fielders involved is very difficult. It is extremely hard to stay in the game and on your toes when you have someone like that on the mound.

Baseball is a game of rhythm. Now I'm not saying that this is 100% effective scenario because obviously it's not, but over the course of time I'd be willing to bet that pitchers like that tend to get a little less run support than faster pitchers.
