I love me some Jonah Keri

Matt (Chicago, IL): Are the Cubs going to get a right handed hitting RF?? Maybe Dye? This is the biggest hole that I see for them.

SportsNation Jonah Keri: (10:37 AM ET ) They've been talking about Payton, who's more of a stopgap than a difference maker. The White Sox are apparently asking a lot for Dye. Cubs have some intriguing young talent, question is whether they'll part with it, given how many holes they'll have to fill around their stars next season and going forward.

Personally I'd slot Matt Murton in there and let him hit, rather than letting Piniella jerk him around like he has. Murton's got a solid track record and could really help that team if they give him a shot. Yes, it seems riskier than making a deal. But why not try it, if the alternative is two months of mediocrity from a Payton type.

AK (Chicago)

Are the Cubs good enough (without making a major deadline deal today) to play late into October?

JOE MORGAN

I think the Cubs are in good shape. Ted Lilly and Zambrano have been leading the charge, and their offense has been going good. I'd say they're a championship-caliber team.

Kiss of death.

So hey, I'm going to keep the front page updated until I go to work, after that, i'll try my best to update it AT work. But, I can't promise anything. If a mod could help me out i'd appreciate it. Anyway, I'm updating the first post with all the deals thus far.

It's sad that we do have in house solutions for 3 of our 4 holes, but Soto, Murton and Pie won't get any regular time for some reason.

No kidding. For the first time in forever we HAVE the solution to some of our problems and we're letting them waste away on the bench/in AAA

Which is why I wouldn't be so frustrated with the idea of staying/standing pat if they showed even just an iota of interest in playing those guys.

We're screwed.

That is not a guy whose endorsement I want.

We'll be in last place within a month thanks to his reverse-logic.

I just heard the Cubs are looking at Brad Wilkerson. Why? Despite being a left-handed hitter, he's mashing lefthanded pitching:

.266 AVE

.356 OBP

.609 SLG

.965 OPS

I've wanted Wilkerson on the Cubs for a LONG time...

I'm surprised at how bad he's been in Texas, though.

Bruce says no trade :(

Pie here to stay; so, likely, are rest of Cubs

“There’s nothing that’s going to happen in the next half-hour or hour, and there’s certainly nothing that’s going to blow people away like when we got Nomar,” [Hendry] said.

Didn't he do pretty well in the series against us?

That's from first thing this morning though. Didn't Bruce post somewhere on here that he didn't see any trades happening, but it was subject to change b/c you never know?
