I don't think he is. If anything, his past shows that he holds onto some prospects too long. He's shown a repeated unwillingness to trade prospects. The one notable exception is the Pierre trade. Most prospects that he has traded have had a pretty long look by the Cubs before they were sent somewhere (Hill, Choi, Cruz, Patterson).

Agreed, I just looked up Laird's numbers and they are pretty bad. I would rather take my chances with Kendall and Blanco than waste the Cubs top prospect on those guys.

I wouldn't think so, he's tearing up AAA and still real young.

 

And I thought he did OK when in Chicago. Obviously his patience needs to improve at the big league level, but he has great potential.

I think his value has done nothing but go up this year. He's a 22 year old tearing up AAA, who struggled in a small number of PA with the major league team. Given time he should adjust, which makes this trade all the more stupid considering we have Soto already.
