Just mentioned on the SCORE.

He's got good numbers this year with a 2.54 ERA.

Definitely looks like Hendry is trying to add a lefty to the bullpen.

Quick question, who does Texas have in the way of top prospects? Wasn't there some (albeit probably not true) rumor of Pie for Laird plus prospects. Those prospects better be good so im wondering what young arms and bats they have in the system...I can't really think of any off the top of my head.

Wilson certainly dominates the lefties... they had a .155 BA against him in 2006 and have a .097 BA (7-72 with 28 Ks) against him so far in 2007. He would have some value as a specialist, but I wouldn't give up much value for him.

Looking at his numbers the past two years, I'd be happy to have him on board. Not for Pie, but if it's a reasonable price, definitely.

Given that the Rangers absolutely refused to include him in the Salty deal, it's a reasonable assumption that it's going to take more than a "reasonable price" to acquire him.

I doubt that Hendry thinks adding a reliever is the best way to improve the team. However, adding a reliever is the easiest and potentially cheapest (in terms of talent and $$) way of improving the team (and also the least effective way of improving the team, unfortunately). There aren't many options available on the market to address the team's other needs.

I would be extremely disappointed, but not the least bit surprised, if Jim Hendry thought adding another reliever is the best option to improve.

It's not the best option, but I'd certainly prefer a reliever over nothing. Another lefty reliever would improve the team, albeit marginally.

Is Laird just underperforming? Was he highly regarded when he was in oakland's system?

Eyre and Murton for Laird and Wilson?

I know many of you will consider it sac-relig to trade Murt, but its sort of a garbage-in, garbage-out scenario.

I have no problem trading Murton, I do have a problem lumping him into a garbage in garbage out transaction.

I get what you are saying, but the reason I asked about Laird is that I don't I know much about his background. He could just be unhappy in TX for all I know, sort of like Barrett was in Montreal before he we got him.

Laird's minor league numbers look a lot like Soto's. I'm not 100% convinced Soto will be a good MLB catcher, but I don't see any justification for trading for another guy in the same boat.

Why Laird might not be hitting, I believe I read that he has thrown out 40 percent of runners.

I've watched the Rangers a few times on t.v. this year since they are always on FSN here. Wilson looks pretty solid, but I wouldn't want to give up anything great for him.

That's quite the username you've got there.

Me to, its evidently clear of offense and pitching, offense is the weaker spot on the Cubs. Recent play aside, an upgrade is badly needed in one or all of RF,CF,SS or C. I can believe Hendry is foolish enough to let their recent play indicate no offensive upgrades are needed, I don't want to, but I can. Heck he talked himself to counting on Wood and Prior for the last three seasons...

Offman on the SCORE just said there's "rumors abound about Pie going to the Rangers for Laird and CJ Wilson."

That would be an awful trade.

Yea, I heard that, too. A lot of times reporters don't realize just how absurd and stupid what they're reporting is. I'll believe it when I see it. Even Hendry isn't that incompetent.

Offman is horrible. I believe he was taking off the baseball beat a couple of years ago for reporting things like that.
