Ensberg has been available in trade talks since the winter, with apparently no one especially interested in gambling on a rebound. The Astros will keep trying to move him now, but he'll probably end up becoming a free agent next month. The 31-year-old Ensberg hit .232/.323/.384 in 224 at-bats. He was actually at .319/.373/.447 in 47 at-bats this month, but that's partly because he was playing only against lefties.

He's also played games at first and short in the minors. Not saying he's good at those positions, but at least he's played them. At the very least I'd imagine he can handle first competently.

The fact that Houston acquired Wigginton and DFA'd Ensberg should tell us enough about Ensberg's value.

Pass.

Tells us that Houston is stupid?

The Jason Jennings trade told us that a while back.

Exactly. Basing a player's worth on his team's (or former team's) actions is pretty ignorant.

It doesn't just indicate his former team's actions/stupidity. It indicates that Houston couldn't deal him.

He's 32. He's having a terrible year. He's been inconsistent.

And DeRosa makes him redundant.

What about RF? could he be a decent platoon partner with Floyd? .820 ops against lefties this past month isnt great, but still better than what we've had.

I'm assuming you're saying this because you don't think Murt will play not because you don't want Murt to play.

Ensberg hasn't been the same hitter since his shoulder injury. I'm not sure he'll ever find the power he showed in 2005. Furthermore, a lot of his power that season may have been a product of the Crawford Boxes.
