Bruce Levine just name dropped Griffey and Dunn on ESPN radio AM 1000 as potential Cub targets. Implying Murton is on showcase this weekend.

What is three games going to show the Reds, especially since he's not even starting tonight?

mlbtraderumors says Levine mentioned any deal would probably involve Gallagher and Murton.

How are we showcasing him if he's on the bench?

They're going to have a scout sit in the dugout and check out his attitude and leadership abilities. They also want to check if the shade of his hair matches their logo.

Beats me. I typically don't take what this Bruce says too seriously though I will report it here as a "service" to my non-Chicago friends here; now the other Bruce, friend of NSBB, if he were to say it, it would be as good as gold in my book.

Just showing the Reds how well he can behave while sitting quietly on the bench.

i think we all feel the same way on that point.

it would be interesting to hear BM's take -- if for no other reason than to hear why Levine believes this, even if it isn't all that credible.

Didn't Bruce just say the other day that it's not going to happen? Maybe things have changed a little bit since we looked like crap again Cy Looper last night. We all know Hendry goes day to day on how he feels about this team.

I don't know that BM is an appropriate nickname for Bruce, seeing as how most people use it to stand for bowel movement.

Now Jay Marrioti on the other hand...

Latest from Will Carroll:

Adam Dunn to the Cubs? No. The Reds are very reluctant to deal him within the division, and the Cubs know that it's a tough sell to take on any salary at this stage. The one interesting twist is that the Cubs are trying to get Dunn to flip him, according to one source; I don't buy into that. The rumored names just don't make sense, though I do think that the Nats could look for a third party to help facilitate a deal.

As I've said before, I'd prefer to leave Dunn in Cincinnati this year. The only other apparent suitor is the Nationals, and that's just because Bowden has man-love for the Dunner, though, you can't really argue that he wouldn't improve that team. Griffey this year and Dunn next when Griff goes down. No reason to sell the farm to get Dunn this year and not be able to resign him in the offseason because of the ownership change.

I cannot believe Hendry will stand still. Remember that he can still make deals within the NL after July 31 w/out first having to pass the aquisition through waivers.

I generally agree/hope that the Hamburgler will be able to pull off a decent trade for an power hitter. Hendry is pretty deft at making moves.

I don't know. It seems entirely possible that he isn't willing to make any moves right now. I'm sure that he would if he thought he could bring in a good player, but all signs seem to point to the Cubs standing pat.

Even with all of the moves he has made in the last several weeks he has kept his best chips. You never know.

Well we traded for Kendall after watching him for like 3 games...look how great that worked out for us.

Dunn to the Nats, Church to the Cubs and prospects to Reds?

i don't hate it... but Murton/Hill/Marshall/Pie better not be a part of it.

plus, if Hendry wants Dunn for himself, would he actually HELP another team get him. seems like he'd try and get him for himself if a deal like that were close.

Probably because Hendry really doesnt want Dunn for himself.

Ohh and add Gallagher to that list.

He's hit 3 big ones (Lee, Ramirez, Nomar) and the rest haven't been all that good.

Partial list of bad Hendry trades:

Maddux-Izturis

Barrett-Bowen

Prospects-Pierre

His track record is mixed, like most.

Barrett wasn't a trade, he was a cheap signing.
Yes it was a trade. He was acquired from Oakland shortly after Oakland acquired him from Montreal. These were actually packaged as two separate trades, but in effect it was Damian Miller for Barrett.
