CSN is saying Fox is going down, as well. I'm be kinda surprised though, Lou did say he wanted to keep him around for a couple of weeks to give him a fair shot.

Man, a poster in this thread is unintentionally hilarious. I can't wait till he says he was "just joking" like the last time he got laughed out of the building.

Why the hell did we call up a slumping shortstop who makes a lot of errors just when Theriot starts doing well?

Anyone know the number for ESPN?

Slumping? His power is a little down over the last couple of weeks, but I would hardly call him slumping.

He's slumping because he has a .294/.318/.341/.659 line in 20 July games, with a 15/3 K/BB ratio. My prediction is that his poor strike zone judgment gets exploited just like it was last year.

He deserves a shot to prove he can hit with the big league club. I'm not so sure he will do much better than he did in 2006 but he should get the chance.

About time.

Don't mess up it this round Cedeno.

He will.

And why in the world are you so certain? You probably assume Murton's numbers guarantee him success, yet Ronny's mean nothing? Laughable.

cedeno at ss, theriot at 2b, derosa in rf. scary as it sounds, that might be the best the cubs can do.

or they could call up that outfielder guy who has already proven that he can be an above-average hitter against big league pitching, put him in rf, derosa at 2b and theriot/fontenot at ss.

Murton, lifetime .804 OPS

Cedeno, lifetime .618 OPS

Also Murton makes more contact, has more power, and is more patient.

See my point?

Murton was a good hitter in nearly a full year of big league experience; Ronny was one of the worst hitters in baseball. Murton controls the strike zone well; Ronny generally doesn't. Why is this laughable?

''The kid can swing the bat and he's got some energy, and I like the way he plays the game," Piniella said. "The problem is, where do you put him? Well, he came up as a shortstop, so we'll play him at shortstop and see what he can do.'' Theriot had two hits during his first start of the season at short on Wednesday.

Note: the source is the Chicago Sun Times

To me, it couldn't sound any less like Lou had any confidence in Theriot at short in that one... a sort of "my back is to the wall" moment for him.

Theriot said. ''Two years ago, that's where I was every day [in the minors]

Interestingly enough, Theriot played 86 games at 2B compared to 36 games at SS in 2005 (the year Theriot refers to).

We'll see. But he offers better defense and the potential for better hitting.

His Iowa numbers cannot be ignored.

That quote is from April 26. What does that prove? That three months ago Lou wasn't sure that Theriot could play short? He seems to be sure he can now.

murton1 tossing out some gems in this thread I see...

I'll be one of the "Cedeno1's". His #'s deserve him atleast another chance.

"deserve him" another chance? off to the TOEFL for you.

Couple thoughts:

against LH pitching:

Cedeno SS

Theriot 2nd

DeRosa RF

Against RH pitching:

Theriot and Cedeno split time at SS- how much depends on Cedeno

Derosa and Fontenot split time at 2nd 60/40

The Cubs haven't promoted anyone to "showcase them for a trade". That might happen with a pitcher sometimes, I suppose, but I can't see what you'd learn from watching a guy play in the majors for a couple weeks. Any team interested in Fox for example would probably rather scout him in AAA then have the Cubs start his option clock just to see him get a couple spot starts.

Pie has been up and down twice and has struggled. Yet he is the first guy that other teams ask about when they talk trade with Hendry.

I hate having to keep explaining this and have people keep picking on me for childish reasons. But I have OCD. Which means I write things entirely inappropriately just for the reason my mind tells me I simply have to. If you want to further make fun of this disease please go right on ahead. I'll suffer at the expense of your amusement.

that's the first I've heard of it. i'm sorry for whatever difficulties/challenges you have, but that kind of response really isn't fair. No one's picking on you because of that, so it's not fair to accuse them of it.

edit: and I don't mean to pry or accuse you of dishonesty, but what kind of OCD does this to you? I'm genuinely curious, if you don't mind.

I wasn't aware that OCD led to inappropriate grammar. Never heard that one. Now writing in shorthand is a completely different matter.

Who cares really? I understood the point of New Era's post, yet the little Grammar police always have to point out peoples mistakes and derail the topic.

Good luck, Ronny. Do well, and stay off of Rush St this time.

I heard he had the Kyle Farnsworth Disease, and that's why he committed so many errors and swung and at everything.

Levine strongly implied as much.

anybody else heard this? Or is it possible that CSN reported wrong that Fox was demoted instead of Moore? If fox is demoted as well I would have to imagine Murton has been called back up. Either that or a trade.
