Wow-the great day for the Cubs in the standings yesterday certainly reflected in their postseason chances. It jumped 6 percent in one day, and now gives the Cubs almost a 57.5% chance of making the playoffs.

Looks like we're going to have meaningful late summer games for the first time in 3 years. Feels great.

 

But perception and path dependence is a funny thing ... can you imagine the despair on this board if you reverse the Cubs W-L sequence? If they shot out of the gate playing .650 baseball, best record in MLB, then started losing til we dropped 2.5 GB behind Milw? Just goes to show how momentum plays a factor in peoples' estimation of future success.
