Looking into a potential post season lineup and rotation do you think it is more important right now to get another bat, or to find a #2/3 starter? Right now in a 5 game series Zambrano then Lilly looks ok, but after that I don't feel to great about anyone.

If Hill gets hot then its an easy choice and our rotation looks great, but tough to really rely on.

Yeah...Marshall and Hill are still pretty young to trot out into game 3 of a playoff series and you just can't trust Marquis with that right now......that being said...give me one more really solid bat and I'll go with that...I'm not as big a Dunn fan as many on this board, but I think Griffey in RF would be a perfect fit...not sure who else really fills that need for us.

Looking at what is rumored to be available, whether you add the bat or a starter is going to be a crapshoot. You're going to have to take someone and hope that they get hot for a month or two. There aren't any "sure" things out there unless you're willing to trade players like Pie or Veal.

I don't see where any really good SP are available so the Cubs likely go with the Starting pitching they have. This would be a great time for Guzman to get healthy.

Is there a consensus list of "available" players anywhere? I'm sure there isn't...but who'd be on it besides

Griffey

Dunn

Texeria

Lofton

Dye

Morris?

A lot of teams are waiting out the next few weeks to see if they will be buyers or sellers.

I'm hoping the Braves dump over the next two weeks and make Renteria available.

The problem with adding a starting pitcher is that our worst starting pitcher isn't going to get taken out of the rotation even if we get another arm.

Exactly. The only way that is going to happen is if we can somehow get another team to actually take Marquis from us.

Sammy Sosa was reported to be available as well. Probably doesnt mean anything for us, but still.

If he could go out and throw one or two good starts in the next 2 weeks and then we could package him in a deal (eating some of his salary) that would net us a decent bat I think Hendry would be a genius.

Looking at our current opponent...any interest in Randy Winn, Benjie Molina or Steve Kline...Ryan Franklin from STL would also be a decent pick up. Edited by moorecg

no bats or starting pitchers in that group

OK, OK...How bout Ryan Church? Or, Could Demitri Young play RF at all anymore?

Matt Morris is heavily rumored to be on the way out.

Off the top of my head, some other SPs who might be available include Kyle Lohse, Bronson Arroyo, Roy Oswalt, and Jose Contreras.

How about Reggie Sanders? He's got great numbers, should come cheap, and if he can show he's healthy over the next 2 weeks would be a great addition to RF/Bench.

Me too, but that's looking more and more unlikely. The Braves have won 4 in a row and are just 1.5 GB in the NL East (and 1 GB of the Wildcard). The team they're chasing in the NLE is old and scuffling...no reason to bag it, in my humble opinion.

Unless Scheurholtz pulls a Reinsdorf and unloads his entire roster while still easily within striking distance.

Jim Hendry canceled his interview with Waddle and Silvy this morning. Hopefully he's busy with a trade.

I'm hoping the same thing. I would hope that they could make a trade rather than send someone down in return for bringing up Petrick.

60 day DL

Wasn't that just a roster space move for their recent trade?...retroactive to when he went on the DL when could he come off the 60? He hasn't played since april 29 so he's already been on the DL for more than 60 days, unless he's had a setback the Royals Web page said he'd be ready this week....

I'll be damned, looks like he'll be activated today

So I add him at or near the top of our list of targets...he should come fairly cheap (mediocre A ball prospect), won't cost much $$, is at the end of his K so no future commitment, and could be very productive in the spots we need him at as well as an additional solid bat off the bench.

Reggie Sanders was dreadful last year. I'm all for staying away. What about David DeJesus? What's his contract like? Edited by inari

We want to acquire Reggie Sanders(who is so old even the Giants got rid of him, five years ago) after he was just activated from the 60 Day DL? Just promote Murton.
