Big day for Izturis....

This usually happens when people whine about the lineup.

If Izturis had a big day every time we bitched about him being in the lineup he'd be batting .600

Yeah, oh well.

I just sit back and enjoy the bitch sessions that ensue. He's on the team, its inevitable he is going to start every now and then.

I particularly love the "Cubs are guaranteed to lose" posts that usually follow.

And the theory holds true once again...

The more I listen to Girardi, the more I'm glad he's not our manager.

I've had the TV muted, so would you mind explaining?

Just a lot of old school baseball cliche's.

Eh, you got those from Lou when he was in the booth as well.

Yeah, I won't judge Joe for that. I think "old school" jargon is what viewers expect. It's more understandable to the masses than new school sabremetrics...

Well this game has been cathartic. The first 3-4 innings made me feel like complete crap, but after shelling Oswalt, I feel a lot better.

Beating up the Astros always feels good.

How could we possibly be winning with Jones, Bowen, and Izturis in the lineup?

We're playing the Astros?

At bottom, the drama queen act when the lineup came out looks a silly now.

having a good game does not replace the fact that we're in dire need of an upgrade at SS, C, and CF.

I agree as to SS and C. But that's not the point. The difference between Izturis' OBP v. RHP and Theriot's OBP v. RHP is one time on base every 9 full games (if they both played every day). That's not a big difference. Yet, every time Piniella starts Izturis, people act as if we may as well just forfeit the game. It's drama queenery at its finest.

Take that to Hendry, not Lou. Freaking out on a manager every game when he's clearly doing well at the moment is, indeed, uncalled for.

touche. However, it doesn't make people comfortable with our chances of winning when the lesser options are all playing on the same day. That's all

Well, why? We play in the NL central. Look at the lineup Houston is running out there and how they play. The Reds have been equally horrible. We have all these games left against bad, bad competition, the easiest schedule in the NL the rest of the way.

That said, yeah, we do need upgrades if we have real hope of contending for a pennant, not the NL central crown.

Out of curiosity, what are the things he is saying that you aren't liking?

this broadcast is just bad

No argument here :)

I think we're a little spoiled with Len & Bob. They've become on of the better booths in baseball. Watching some of the MLBEI games every night, I can tell you most of the broadcast teams sound more like this -- very little chemistry, boring, and alot of cliche' comments.

Playing in a weak division doesn't mean we should be comfortable with significant holes in our lineup. But it is more on JH than Lou. I just wish we would stagger those spot starts.
