Dont know if this was posted yet...

Controversial Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Thursday that he has submitted his application to purchase the Cubs. He said he believed he sent it in last week, though he wasn't sure. Dates don't matter anyway. What matters is that he's officially serious about buying the valuable, championship-starved franchise on the North Side.

Excellent news. Hopefully, he's given a fair shake. I'd love to see Maverick Mark buy the team.

Does anyone really believe Cuban stands a chance in h*ll? I wish he had a fair shot, but am highly dubious of the the old boys club headed by Selig..

He certainly won't get a fair shot. He's going to have to outbid everyone and make sure there are no holes in his plan. Although didn't MLB approve the Red Sox sale to Henry and co. even though they didn't have the highest bid?

I thought maybe Castro had put in a bid.

May be a nice source of talent for the Cubs. I'm in.

Sulley would be happy.

Maybe he has a chance.......He brings news and media coverage to MLB. He has certainly been great for the NBA. Sure he stirs up trouble sometimes cut coverage is coverage. If baseball wants to compete with the NFL agin this is the type of owner they need,,,,

oh well

Stop using logic. MLB will have none of that!

He'd be a good source of revenue for MLB, as he would probably accumulate a lot of fines. :D

Good thing Froemming is retiring. Could you imagine Mark being in the stands behind the plate at a game Bruce is umping. hahaha.

MLB really needs to hear it from us... Cuban deserves a shot to own the team if he has the best bid.

Cuban has media assets like HDNet, 2929 Entertainment. and Rysher Entertainment, plus stakes in Lionsgate Films & The Weinstein Group that the Trib would be interested in.

http://www.rysherentertainment.com/

Check out all that programming, for instance.

Oh yeah, Cuban's billionaire buddy and regular business partner Todd Wagner (who co-founded Broadcast.com & owns HDnet/2929 with him) is probably involved with the bid as well I bet... he's from the region (Merillville), so that fullfils the "local ownership" requirement. He co-owns part of the Mavs with Cuban as well.

i think there is some hope that comes with this. Cuban is a very determined guy that I don't think will be content with a denial by the mlb when he has the highest bid.

If Wagner is involved as well with the bid, there's going to be no easy way for MLB to deny them.

And the Cuban/Wagner assets (entertainment and online media holdings) would be a lot more attractive to integrate into the Tribune than what other ownership groups offer.
