Poor guy is due.

Pardon my ignorance, but if I have tickets to this Friday's game, does this mean there's an outside chance I could see Kerry pitch?

I don't see why not. I wouldn't even say it's an outside chance. It's a pretty decent chance. If he's called up Thurs, there's no reason he couldn't be called in to a game on Friday.

Especially since he wouldnt have thrown since Tues, Id say there is a real good chance. Imagine that, Wood relieving Zambrano wow

I have visions that his first pitch thrown will result in his arm detaching at the shoulder and falling to the ground about halfway between home and the pitching mound. Dusty Baker will run out of the visiting dugout nude. Pick up the arm, wave it furiously in the air and then scamper back into the visiting dugout.

I'll be at Friday's game as well. I hope it's his first day back and pitching. I would love to be there when he gets his standing ovation. He's worked his tail off to get back. He deserves it.

"I look at it as a second chance," Wood said. "A month and a half ago, I didn't think I'd be talking to you guys, especially about pitching."

That's because about three weeks ago, Wood couldn't throw from 45 feet.

"I was thinking probably another surgery and that could be it, or another surgery and another long rehab," he said. "I wasn't willing to do that at the time. I gave it one more shot and so far so good."

He's heard the comments that he's made a miraculous recovery.

"It was kind of surprising," Wood said. "It was just overnight and unexpected for sure."

This still bothers me a little. Miracles like this just don't happen to Kid K.

It just might be our year...Imagine that?

I seriously get chills just thinking about it. C'mon baseball gods just give him one last go at it. He deserves it!

I think the Cubs will activate Blanco and Wood at the same time this coming weekend and DFA Hill as the corresponding roster move to clear the room on the 40 man roster. I doubt any teams will be leaping at the chance to grab Hill so he probably will accept the assignment back to Iowa.

I'm deffinatly looking forward to the standing O. It'll be a special time for all cubs fans. I'd be suprised if Woody didn't show some facial reaction.

I didn't think Blanco would be back until September? Did I make that up/did something change?

Hes been rehabbing in Peoria now for at least a week. Also, I will be surprised if they DFA Hill just because of how Z has pitched with him catching. Not saying I believe Hill is the reason because I dont, but I think some people in the Cubs brass might think differently.

Actually, two spots would need to be opened on the 40-man. Wood and Blanco are both on the 60-day DL.
I'd say it's 99.9% certain that Hill will go when Blanco returns. The Cubs aren't going to keep three catchers. Blanco has caught Z in the past.

I understand Blanco has caught Z in the past, but hes never been on a streak like he is right now. Also I heard Lou mention "we know what are winning percentage is with Hill behind the plate" so I really think the Cubs brass will keep him up. Maybe Im wrong, and I hope Im wrong, but I dont think its a cut and dry as others

He had a similar streak, which spanned 11 starts in 2003.

He had a similar streak, which spanned 10 starts last season.

From Bruce's latest column:

On being 30: Kerry Wood was asked Sunday how it felt to be 30 years old, a milestone he hit last month.

“I never thought about that until I had a guy in Peoria say he used to watch me when he was, like, 11,” Wood said. “That’s the first time I heard that. I told him to beat it.”

Well after yesterdays game Z said hes never been on a roll like he is now, so thats why I said that.

Henry Blanco is not on the 60-day DL.

I guess I should have commented on Blanco's performance in Friday's game too... I forgot about that.

He wasn't impressive at all. On the throw down to 2nd base, he looked pretty uncomfortable, but the ball was on target. His bat looked awful. He popped everything up and nothing made it past the pitchers mound I believe.

He also walked once and the Dragons must have thought that for some reason Rickey Henderson was on 1st because they tried picking him off 6 or 7 times.

Dump Kendall then???

I'd rather have Kendall/Blanco than Koyie/Blanco. Infact. I'd rather have Kendall/Koyie and just forget about Blanco.

Atleast Kendall has a chance of not being a black hole and has shown some improvement lately.

Hmm, you're right. For some reason I was thinking he was transferred a couple of weeks ago to make room for somebody on the 40-man.

Carroll on XM said that Kerry would be making an appearance in AA before joining the team. Carroll also said that he hadn't heard of any health issues or problems so far and said Kerry's turnaround is remarkable.

I tuned in just in time to hear him talk about Kerry; I don't know how recent his info is about a AA appearance.

eta: jaxxradio posted in the minor leagues forum that Kerry would be pitching for the Smokies, so I guess that's confirmed now.
