Good thread. But, one name that I don't see listed is Ryan Church as a possible trade addition.

True, but I'm guessing that's because the thread is in regard to 2007 free agents.

Of course, that doesn't mean that potential trade targets can't be discussed either.

That's very true. I probably should have listed him, although he was basically unavailable with how much the Nationals were reportedly asking for him.

I mentioned him mainly because Westbrook was mentioned. It seemed like the Cubs had as much interest in Church as they did in Westbrook.

Church's SLG% is way down this year.

RFK seems to sap everyone's SLG%. How do the home/roads look for all the Nats players?

I actually think the Cubs had a lot more interest in Church than Westbrook. From what Bruce told us, Hendry was in conversations about Church for a while this off-season, but the Nats weren't giving him up without a king's ransom. I listed Westbook because I didn't know how much the Indians wanted for him exactly, and he was one of the main 2 or 3 pitchers that the board wanted.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just thought Church would have been a guy to include on your list.

Nice work. That had to take some time and effort.

Last in the league, 658 OPS at home, 2nd to last in the league, 685 on the road. It holds them down, but they suck anyway.

So they will really be in trouble once Dmitri Young and Christian Guzman come back down to earth.

Guzman is injured and out for the rest of the year.

He must have injured himself on purpose. That's the only way he ends this season with a 128 OPS+. Should be good enough to get some team to give him another 4 year/16m contract.

marquis sucks and hendrys a dumbass

Insightful comment. How does this crap stay on here?

I think Meph got bored with baseball and decided to troll for a while.

Maybe he doesn't like it when the Cubs win?

He's rooting for Redding against the Cubs tonight because Redding is on his fantasy team. He called the Cubs the TubbyCubbys.

You want us to look at the 07's free agents asses at the mid-point?

Exactly...doing the same exercise last year.

Jacque Jones

306/336/528

How well is that working out for us?

Uh, you might want to look at his statement again-he's making a play on words.

Obviously, things could change I don't think anybody is disputing that.

Not well, but to the extent you are comparing Jones to say, DeRosa, you are comparing apples to oranges.

What's even more amazing is one of Hendry's missed targets this offseason:

Gil Meche-3.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 143 ERA+ (5 years, 55 million)

You're not wrong. I get more and more surprised by this as time goes on.

Same here. At first I thought it was a bad signing, but Meche is proving me wrong, and making Dayton look smart. Most people give me grief becuase Meche is in the all-star and his W-L is pitiful.

I rebuked them and told them "What's his ranks in the AL on ERA and IP?"

I also responded that Meche has 12 "quality starts" and has worked at least six innings in 14 of his 17 outings. His 5-6 record is a result of limited offensive support; his ERA is a better indicator, as well as ERA+ -- and ranks nearly 1 1/2 runs per game better than his 4.65 career mark entering the season.

I've seen Meche pitch in person three times now at the K this year, and he has been absolutely terrific. He never gets ruffled on the mound, always composed, and has very good stuff.

Frankly, the surprise is not that he's been doing so well in KC, the surprise is why he couldn't do the same in Seattle. A very talented pitcher.

Yep. I wanted Meche badly. I wanted him over Lilly, and certainly over Marquis. I think we'd be quite a bit better if Meche was in the rotation instead of Lilly or Marquis (especially Marquis). I mean, we almost got Meche and Lilly. That would've been nice.
