Chipper Jones just had the third stolen base of the game off of Barrett....

LMAO umm I think you forgot to say who was pitching. Greg Maddux enough said Just about every throw by Barret has been there tonight but with Maddux the catcher has no chance. Oh and Barret had a single tonight, I wish we could say that about our own catchers

Incredible that someone would say bases are being stolen 'off Barrett' when Maddux is on the mound.

Far be it for me to claim Barrett's good at throwing out runners, but yeah -- it's Maddux.

Update to the opening post. Non-Barrett Cub catchers are hitting .129/.197/.198 in about 127 plate appearances. For the year Cub pitchers are .145/.165/.227.

We need to call up Soto to see what he could do. This reminds me of 2003 when we had a black hole at 7,8,9 spots in the lineup. It's worth a shot at this point. See what Soto can do, if he can do the job we're golden, if not, look elsewhere out of the organization to fill the need.

Soto is Wuertz 2006 Part Deux. Soto tears up AAA, MW tears up AAA. Replace Novoa with Koyie Hill. Didnt want to expose Novoa to waivers, dont want to do it to Hill. Um, aint nobody gonna take Hill and keep him on their roster and if they do good for them.

Call this guy up now.

.341/.412/.996

Koyie

.148/.217/.447 (That .447 isnt his slugging thats his OPS!) 61 at bats.

For him to be productive he needs to cream the crap out of the ball pronto.

Apparently the revolving door for the minor leagues and the majors only works for Bullpen help. Not for something as unimportant as a starting catcher.

CERA is a very important concept. It is a way to show who is better at calling pitches. The pitchers are the same, so obviously there is a difference. Defense behind the dish is vital to a team's success.

2001 - Miller

2002 - Molina

2003 - Rodriguez

2004 - Varitek

2005 - Pierzynski

2006 - Another Molina

4 of the last 6 seasons a defensive standout catcher's team has won the WS. That's a nice tradition the Cubs don't have.

CERA is mostly worthless even when used to compare catchers on the same team since so many factors change from game to game (opponent, lineup, weather conditions, etc.) CERA is completely worthless when comparing catchers that don't play for the same team.

As for the list of defensive catchers above, I'd say their team's success probably had more to do with the pitching staff they were catching rather than their ability to cause a call a good game.

I know what CERA is and it's worth. Don't lecture to me.

If you already knew that CERA is practically meaningless why use it to prove a point?

If I were lecturing you'd be asleep by now

Because I wasn't trying to prove a point about catcher's defense!

Really? Because this statement:

CERA is a very important concept. It is a way to show who is better at calling pitches

seems to be about defense and this statement:

4 of the last 6 seasons a defensive standout catcher's team has won the WS.

Seem to be about the importance of having a good defensive catcher.

For those who weren't aware, Meph got bored with baseball for a while and decided that the best way to amuse himself was to pretend that he was an idiot. Hence, the CERA stuff, along with other, significantly stupider comments.
