At the risk of sounding like a complete pompous moron, I respectfully request....if you only hear part or a statement, or are uncertain of what you heard, please don't post your guesses. It's not that important to be the first to post something.

what is Cedeno's line right now? Isn't it outrageous?

I'd like Hendry to get a deal done already, but this isn't tragic.

It is when you consider that nobody else on the roster can play SS for more than an emergency fill-in role... which means it's going to be all Izturis all the time.

Bingo.

Izturis has been outplaying Theriot. As the starting SS, Theriot has been abysmal.

There's a negligible difference defensively, and Theriot is a better bet to produce offensively going forward, despite what he's done in an small sample at SS.

I think that thier difference in offense will be fairly negligible as well. If I had to choose between sending down Theriot and DFAing Izturis, I would send down Theriot. This is because Izturis may yet have some trade value in a GM's eyes due to his fluke 2004 where he hit .288 (.711 OPS) and won the Gold Glove.

Since we have to pay his salary anyway, I could see Hendry holding on to him until the deadline in an attempt to get something for him. Meanwhile Theriot goes down to get playing time (maybe some innings in the OF) so he's ready for his role as the 25th man.

In this scenario I would like to see Cedeno start at SS in Chicago for the majority of the time.

i have no problem with sending theriot down if it's to call up cedeno. however, if that's the case they still need to do something with jones and/or izturis. so they can bring up a releiver.

I was pretty sure I heard it, that's why I posted it. If I had doubts, I wouldn't have posted it or I would have posted it as a question in another thread. I really don't care if I'm the first to post something.

I think the moral of the story is that Cedeno needs to be up playing short every single day so Theriot can return to being a fine utility player. Izturis can go cry in a corner.

If he can produce offensively this is a great idea.

Then we cut Jones and bring up a reliever (Prinz, Piggy, Bailey, Cherry) and call it a day.

Quite frankly, it doesn't really matter if he produces offensively. He can't be worse than Theriot and Izturis, and he plays significantly better defense than either of them.

He's ready for another shot at starting SS in the bigs. If his numbers drop by .100 all the way around from his AAA numbers, he's still putting up a good season for a young SS.

He's capable of playing as good on defense as Izturis/Theriot, if not better. He's tearing apart AAA, bring him up.

Right on. I don't want to keep Izturis by any means. I have been against his presence on the team from Day 1. But a straight up release doesn't really help the team right now. If it's true that somebody would have interest, I'd rather give it a couple days than have the need for 12 pitchers force my hand today. I'm 100% for Theriot being a Cub and Izturis being elsewhere in the future, however, Theriot's horrible play of late makes it very easy to send him down for now and give Hendry more time to deal Izturis or Jones.

You wouln't be sending down the guy who is performing better, and you wouldn't be sending down a guy who has been given an unfairly small opportunity. The Cubs franchise as a whole is better off if they can get another team to pay a good chunk of Izturis's money, and/or get something in return. Same with Jones. Refusing to send down an unperforming optionable (at least I think he has options) utility player and therefore losing any chance of getting something for these guys doesn't help the team.

Cedeno showed really good range last year, but his issues were throwing to first. From what I saw in ST this year, he looked alot better with that throw to first.

It wasn't directed at just you. The board, and this thread in particular have numerous examples. Again, I don't want to sound like a jerk though, its frustrating when you only have a few minutes to check transactions etc.

I know diddly poo about defensive metrics and statistics, let me say that right away. However, from what I can tell with my eyes, Cedeno is a terrific defensive player with a lot of range. His arm betrays him sometimes, but he's a far superior defender to Izturis (or Theriot) unless I'm missing something.

He's got a really good, strong arm. It just gets a little wild once in a while. He will get to balls that Izturis and Theriot won't though.

No worries. It was my fault for not double checking, at the very least. I think I'll stick to listening to minor league games online at work when the Cubs don't have day games.

I read 8 pages and still do not know what is going on or did I miss it when skimming?

Nothing has happened, I misheard a WSCR report.

I beleive Murph was just throwing out the Twins . . as in "Jones to the Twins, Buerle to the Dogers . . not yet at least . . . !"

For what it's worth Raisin, a guy on another board supposedly heard it too. I think this one's more on the score than it is on you...actually he said his friend called him to say he heard it. There was another guy that said he also heard it, and both of them have a decent amount of posts, so its not just some trolls.

Cedeno's problems on defense aren't natural ability. For some reason he botches the routine plays and makes the spectacular ones. Great range, strong arm, and soft hands, but somehow he ends up racking up the errors.

His offensive showing at AAA is promising, but a lot of his offensive success at the ML level has been dumping stuff down the RF line. Teams started playing him to RF and those disappeared. Hopefully he has changed his game in the last couple months.

Wow - I always thought of myself as a rookie, or a fan of the message boards. Now I know I should refer to myself as a troll! I better get my number of posts up!!! (Just kidding!) :)

Haha you know what I meant...although now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure what I meant...we've had very good posters who don't post all that often and trolls that post every chance they get...so post counts really don't mean much haha. I guess I just meant that they didn't just randomly come over to the site and post it haha.

I completely agree but wanted to have some fun at your expense! After reading pages and pages of posts and saying nothing, I had to get my two cents in somehow!
