Francis grounds out to 3rd, Hawpe out at 3rd.

Coming up: Bowen, Izturis, Marquis.

Back to Back to Back Jacks (how sad is it that the best chance of a HR out of those 3 is Marquis?)

Pat and Ron are making it sound like he swung at that ball. What happened?

pitch was about six inches away from his body, he dropped his right arm and had it bounce off his elbow.

definitely checked. but definitely looked like a Biggio/Vina.

Yuck

What do you mean yuck? Cubs score three runs this inning, I'm calling it now.

(Either that or they're done on no more than 7 pitches.)

he started to swing he checked up the swing and got hit on the arm. He didn't go around but you could have made an arguement that he he leaned into it though.

He didn't swing. Wasn't even close.

He checked his swing in plenty of time, but it was his check swing action that put his elbow in range to be knicked by the ball. The would not ordinarily have been a HBP, and there was no attempt to avoid the pitch.

It will be the latter.

When was the last time an ump ruled no base for failure to attempt to avoid the ball? I don't think that part of the rule is ever enforced anymore.

How's Marquis look tonight? Getting his sinker working again?

According to Ron, after that first inning, he's done better about keeping the ball down and hitting the corners. Control is still a little suspect, as is the strike zone, but overall not too bad so far.
