1. The Phillies are contenders this year, but they've lost ex-Cub Jon Lieber likely for the remainder of the season. They need a starting pitcher--now. Who does Philly have that could be of interest to the Cubs, either interesting prospects or useful veterans? With June 15 now past us, does Ted Lilly have a NTC for this year (I don't know if he does or not)?

2. Rangers are obviously in sell-mode. Felix Pie is the CF of the future, but his bat just isn't ready, that is pretty obvious. Meanwhile, the ageless Kenny Lofton just keeps producing. Would something like Ronny Cedeno and Mitch Atkins be enough for Lofton; would it even be advisable? If the Cubs are serious about trying to make a run in 07 at the Brewers, Lofton would be a fine stopgap to make that run, and give young Pie more time to work on his offense in Iowa.

eh i know that pie isn't producing a lot from the plate, but still his glove and speed in the lineup is worth it if the cubs can shore up RF or SS...i mean he only looks bad hitting with the likes of jones and izturis playing a lot...id give him more time and not worry bout CF

1- The Phillies are looking to move Rowand for SP and have been since Garcia went down earlier. Dont think there is anything we need from the Phillies.

2- HELL NO! Ronny is murdering AAA pitching at the moment. He is also probably next years SS unless you want to see Izturis again next year. Lofton is a has been.

Also, Pie's numbers would look better if they sat him down against a few more left-handers:

Against RHP: .269/.330/462 (93 AB's)

Against LHP: .129/.129/.129 (31 AB's)

There's no need to acquire another player for CF-if the Cubs really want to play for this year, they just need to platoon him a little more.

Pie has pretty much conquered AAA pitching. Time to let him make adjustments at the major league level.

Agreed. He's going to have his ups and downs for awhile, and he's currently down, but he has shown the ability to hit major league pitching. You have to accept growing pains from youngsters.

I'm a big fan of Pie, but I'm surprised Lou doesn't platoon him with Pagan when facing a tough lefty (or maybe any lefty).

I hope they don't go with a platoon w/Pie, I agree with the others that he has play everyday at the major league level against RH'ers and especially Lh'ers. With a team that is 5 games under, there's no reason to stunt the development of someone with the possibilities of Pie.

i don't mind Pie's slump since Lou was smart enough to move him down in the order (and, smarter still, not to 8th)

Technically, he has been batting 8th the last few games, but I understand your point. He will probably bat 7th now that the team is back in an NL park unless someone other than Theriot or Izturis is starting at SS.
