I know there was a Dukes thread earlier, but couldn't find it....

Marlins Still Like Elijah Dukes

The Marlins have flirted with the idea of acquiring Elijah Dukes for center field for at least a few months. Back in March, Jayson Stark mentioned the idea. At that point, Peter Gammons felt that the Fish would not trade young pitching to get their center fielder.

Now they may be able to get Dukes for next to nothing. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins have Dukes on the radar if they can get him for little. Any breathing reliever might do the trick. If the Marlins think, for some reason, that they can alleviate Dukes' off-the-field issues, it could be a fantastic example of buying low.

By the way, one source tells me that the Nationals are definitely not interested in Dukes. A less exciting but safe option for Florida would be Brady Clark, who recently became a free agent. The Marlins have some interest.

Obviously the Cubs have 0 interest which is too bad. Duke's has a real low BAPIP right now and once those hits start falling in he will provide huge value. Doesn't suprise me the Marlins are interested. I would love an outfield of Soriano, Dukes, and Pie.

And for the record I could care less about his character. I'd field a team of rapists if it meant a WS for the Cubs.

The end justifies the means, huh?

I want a WS. We are not assembling a convent here. BTW, how is the weather up there?

LOL, yeah right.

Wanting to field a winning team that isn't mostly comprised of thugs equates to living in an ivory tower.

Good one.

And make no mistake about it, Dukes is a thug.

Thanks father. You have educated me on the topic of baseball morals. I sure hope this young thug never wears a Cubs uniform.

It doesn't pertain just to this and it really doesn't matter, but out of curiosity, how old are you?

Dukes would probably love to get traded to the Marlins. He could still drive over to Tampa to beat up his girlfriend some more.

Thanks for the heart to heart chat Badger.

Does anyone wanna talk baseball in this thread btw?

This is really interesting because Tampa appears willing to give away Dukes for next to nothing. He isn't going to hit .190 for the rest of the season, and once his avg climbs to around 260-270, he will easily post an OPS of .850, if not better. Opportunites to get a young player with this ceiling for so low really don't come around too often.

Since 2003 he has really cut down on his strikeouts as well. He had a 370 career OBP in the minors, and posted .401 at Durham last season. To me this seems like just the guy the Cubs need to go after. He is a thug though, too bad.

And when have you ever known the Cubs to go after someone with those kinds of values?

I know that's a figure of speech, but I'd kill to ride the pine and never play baseball ever if it meant I got MLB league minimum salary.

He's going somewhere. Rotoworld reports he just got dropped from the roster:

Elijah Dukes has been dropped from Tampa Bay's roster, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

No word yet on whether he's been optioned to Triple-A, designated for assignment or traded, but Dustan Mohr is coming up to replace him. Jun. 22 - 3:59 pm et

I'm surprised Pittsburgh hasn't jumped in on the sweepstakes. I would think they would show interest in Milton Bradley or Dukes.

Wow...If I was a GM I would be all over this guy.

Be careful. His six kids with five different women seem to indicate he doesn't like to play safe.
