Sean travelled today to Cellular field with the club and was going to throw his bullpen session in the pen. He is scheduled to join Iowa sometime sat. and not sure when he is scheduled to throw....

I hope he's taking advantage of the per diem while he can.

so, how much is that these days?

I actually do know the answer to this but won't answer, I do know he has put most of it away....

He's a smart guy then.

I hope he gets some starts in at Iowa and makes a strong finish in Chicago this year.

by my calculations, we're back to a respectable number of pitchers
Cubs.com indicates that's only for the weekend.
Numbers game: The Cubs now have 11 pitchers' date=' and can stay with that number through the weekend. Because the pitcher doesn't hit, they don't have to worry about double switches.

But they'll be back to 12 very soon.

"It hasn't worked when we've tried [11 pitchers'] before," Piniella said.

It's tough to figure out what the Cubs will do. Mike Fontenot was batting .348 since his callup, and has played solid defense at second. With Ramirez back, the infield is crowded, and Mark DeRosa may be playing some right field. Fontenot can play shortstop if needed. What will they do?

"I can't figure it out either," Piniella said. "We'll see what happens with this thing. We haven't even discussed it."

Here Lou. I'm gonna make it very short and sweet. If your infield is too crowded, as you say, them the answer is simple.

Just DFA Iziturd. It's that easy. Doesn't take a freaking rocket scientist to figure out the problem, for crying out loud!

For some reason the figure $84/day comes to mind. Not sure where I read that, or if it's accurate.

That sounds about right - it's definitely in the 80 neighborhood.

Gallagher to Iowa!!!! Sweet!!! I gotta make plans to go down and see him.

I wanted to see Pie one last time, but that didn't happen. I'll be at Sean's first start in Des Moines!

Sounds like Sean's first start will be on Sunday.

Talking what to do about the second base logjam:

"I have some ideas about that," Piniella said, "but we'll wait for [Monday]. We might surprise you a little bit."

And here's a quote about Fontenot:

"He's earned a spot playing by his play," Piniella said. "He's been consistent. He's hit well. The kid deserves to be out on the field."

Well, let's see. If Fontenot is going to continue to play, and DeRosa is going to be put somewhere, that means 1 of only two things. Either DeRosa is going to play RF (which I can see him doing tomorrow night) or one of DeRosa/Fontenot is going to move to short.

Since Lou hints at a surprise, I hope that in the next week one of those two will be seen at short, since of course the DeRosa to RF thing has been talked about a lot. That's the only thing that makes sense to me that could be labeled a surprise at all.

If one of those two does move to SS, the Cubs become a lot better offensively. Since tomorrow night is a left-hander, I think we'll have to wait a few days to see how this shakes out against right-handers and left-handers.

Like today, Sunday? If so, I guess I'll see his 2nd start in Iowa!

Yeah, today. You missed a good one - 5 shutout, 1-hit innings. Hopefully his pitch count moves up in his next start.
