ESPN[/url]"]Miguel Tejada's consecutive games streak is endangered by a wrist injury. The Orioles All-Star shortstop has been diagnosed with a distal radial fracture of the left wrist, an American League source told ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney on Thursday.

In Wednesday night's game against the Padres, Tejada was hit on the left wrist by a pitch from Doug Brocail. The source said that the left-wrist fracture, a non-displaced break, is viewed as being serious. If Tejada is forced to miss any action, his streak of 1,152 consecutive regular-season games played would come to an end. It is the fifth-longest streak in big league history and longest current streak in the majors.

Sounds like he might be out 6-8 weeks. He's saying he's going to keep playing, but I don't see how that's going to happen.

How ridiculous. Tejada's consecutive games streak is worthless if this is what he'll do to extend it. The Orioles knew in advance that this was how it would play out, as they moved Tejada up to the second spot in the order to accomodate him. We're certainly not questioning Tejada's toughness, but if he was too hurt to play, he should have been a man and sat out. Jun. 21 - 4:16 pm et

I believe Tejada is under contract for 2008. A smart GM--which we do not have--would make the trade for Tejada NOW, while he is hurt but before he goes on the DL. You'd get him cheapest that way.

Cubs aren't going anywhere this year, but you'd be setup for 2008 just great at SS. You let Miggy take his team getting well for the remainder of 07 and simply plan for the future.

Smart idea.. but won't happen.

That's a scary wrist injury for a guy who already lost a bunch of power this season. Tejada's production for 2008 is very uncertain right now, and I think what it would take to get him still would not come down (remember, Angelos won't permit Tejada to be dumped, and he has stopped them from trading Tejada at all before).

Why pay him for two months when he can't play?

Yeah, this is what I think.

Lee lost power after a broken wrist. Matsui has next to no power after a broken wrist. Choi lost power after a broken wrist. Tejada doesn't have a lot of power left, and he's already relatively old for a middle infielder. The reason you get him is for production right now. Getting him for 2008 reduces his value considerably. But I doubt his trading price is much cheaper. And there's really no way he gets traded while injured. It doesn't happen.

BIG difference if Tejada broke his left wrist, as a right handed thrower and batter. That top hand wrist (right hand) would have been much worse to deal with if broken.

DLee broke his right wrist, correct?

Gehrigs 2,130 must have been worthless too, then. There were some Yankee road games where he'd bat leadoff, then get pulled for a pinch runner, or he'd play one inning in the field.

I doubt Gehrig did it for 6-8 weeks which is what Tejada would have had to have done to keep his streak alive which is what I think they're referring to.
