I would love to be able to cheer for Sosa, but I can't help but wonder how many of those homeruns he would not have been able to hit without juicing. I just can't admire someone who cheated to achieve his success, as I believe he did. I loved Sosa from 1998 to 2004 like everyone else, but I can't cheer for him anymore than I can cheer for Bonds.

think what you will, but sammy sosa does not display the traditional characteristics of steroid use, among other things.

A picture says a 1,000 words. Have you compared any current pictures of the Texas slimmed-down Sammy (see pg. 110 of today's Sun-times) with the Incredible Hulk Sammy that played with the Cubs in the late 90's? Don't people usually get heavier as they get older?

If the size loss is totally due to diet then Sammy should be the new spokesperson for Weight Watchers.

People are supposed to get more muscular as they get older?

It's absurd to accuse a player of steroid use based solely on the difference between how they looked when they debuted to how they looked in the prime.

It's doubly absurd to do it in the current era where there is an abundance of legal supplements and state of the art weight training at an athlete's disposal.

It's downright bat(stuff) crazy to do it to a guy who grew up in the Dominican Republic and was clearly undersized when he started out.

I've said this all along that Sammy will be the one guy in this era that will never be proven of steriod use. There's not even circumstancial evidence against him.

He wasn't part of BALCO. He wasn't on one of these internet "pharmacy" lists. He's not in anyones book.

There's never been anything to link Sammy directly to steriods.

I do think that he probably used something to get bigger, but I have seen guys in their mid-20's gain 20-30 lbs in a summer using weigh gain supplements and creatine. So, I don't think it's impossible for Sammy to have not used steriods.

I will say that it didn't make him look very good suddenly forgetting how to speak english in front of Congress.

Geez, I didn't even realize the #21 connection.

And don't even get me started on the whole retiring the number issue or this thread will get to be 15 pages long.

I love that this happened against the Cubs...mainly because it's fitting it's on WGN and was being broadcast all over the country.

Well done, Sammy. You're one of the greats.

Yeah, don't get me started! Marquis and the #21 still eat at me everytime he pitches.

I cheered.

Well, I watched other people cheer, I was too busy recording it.

That's right, I was there.

I've got the whole thing on my camera, I'll have to upload it tomorrow when I get home.

BTW, It was awesome how he made the gesture to the Cubs.

I'm glad it was when all the Cub fans where watching!

Sammy will always be a special player in my mind. Even if his ego was a bit out there and he was a douche bag near the end.

One of my hopes is that the new ownership embrasses what Sosa was to the Cubs in his tenure.

I just wanted to bragpost about being at the game last night. I did indeed cheer for Sammy on his epic night. We actually decided to go kind of at the last minute and got there barely by the first pitch (we live in Tulsa, OK). Sorry if this makes no sense at all, I just got in and I've been up for over 24 hours now.

Seats were 28 rows up on the Rangers side.

My dad's snapshot of #600, I know its not the greatest but you only get one chance eh?

Sammy is the man.

way to go, sammy. i was even happier for him than i thought i would be. i'm glad he did it against the cubs so we could see it. good for him.

i don't get it, it's not like he passed somebody when he hit 600

Yeah, I feel that these things can be kind of arbitrary.

Is this really arbitrary? Only 5 players have hit 600 or more HR's.
