Major League Baseball is such a joke....I mean i undersatnd they won't give a pitcher a lot of games but they should have to miss at least two starts and without peavy doing what he did, perry wouldn't have done what he did. peavy runs his mouth, tries to tackle dlee, and only gets suspended.

Lee will miss 5 games for reacting to a baseball thrown at his face.

Young will miss 1 game for throwing a baseball at Lee's face.

Yeah, okay.

A guy throws a ball at my face, he shouldn't be surprised if the next time I face him the bat doesn't slip out of my hands on my next swing.

so by way of comparison, Chris Young gets the same penalty for throwing at someone's head and his part in inciting a brawl as Kerry Wood got for arguing with an umpire.

Derrick Lee gets suspended five games for the exact same actions that Arod and Veritek got four games for.

there will not be any games taken off of Lee's penalty. if they did that, they would have to reduce Young's also, leaving the obviousness of the non-penalty that he received all too obvious.

Why is Giles being fined? All that I saw him do was pull Young away from Lee, preventing any further punches from being thrown. If anything, he should be commended.

According to ESPN, it is not Marcus Giles, but Brian Giles that is being fined. It was Marcus in the infield, right? Was Brian even playing?

That ESPN article is definitely wrong. Was Brian Giles even at the game?

Why is it wrong? Why would Marcus, who did nothing but break it up, get fined? Brian was probably fined for coming onto the field while on the DL.

If the Padres were smart it wouldn't even really be missing any games.

Have Young appeal his suspension until he starts his next game, drop his suspension after the game, sit out 5 games and then start the next game on 1 extra days rest.

I just watched a replay on Chicago Tribune Live and I'm almost 100% positive Brian Giles was in the middle of all the action. He was not in full uniform, he had on pants, but was wearing a Padres' pullover. ESPN probably has this one right.

Haha, what's the point of giving a pitcher a 5-game suspension even when you have the right to appeal. Lame.

And why does Perry get suspensded when Peavy doesn't? Seems ridiculous.

Lee got off lightly. I was going to say - it didn't look like Marcus Giles deserved to be punished at all. Makes sense that it's Brian.

Of course I'm still waiting for Edgar Renteria to get some sort of punishment.

Definitely Marcus. Brian is and has been on the DL with a bruised knee.

It's Brian that was fined from everything I've heard. You can't come on the field while on the DL which is why the fine would make much more sense being issued to Brian than Marcus.

I'm gonna say it'll get reduced to 3 or 4 games for Lee if he appeals.

If Young appeals, it should be raised to 15.

I'm kind of in shock that Peavy didn't get suspended. Did MLB choose to ignore his attempted take down of Derrek Lee after it appeared the fight was wrapping up? Did they ignore his comments in the newspaper? Do they think he developed ESP when he moved to the top step of the dugout right before everything got crazy?

It's unfortunate that it happened. I still like Peavy as a player. I think he's one of the best, if not THE best pitcher in the game right now. And from everything I've read before last weekend, he seems to be a nice guy. But I guess when you're best friend and hunting buddy is Roy Oswalt, you're bound to run into trouble with the Chicago Cubs.

You must have missed his, "Im Jake Peavy, do you know who I am"? I cant remember the rest of what happened but I know Raisin does.

I could read lee's lips when he said "what?!?" to young, but what did it appear that young said to him? I never saw a good angle to try to read his lips and I was wondering if anyone else saw it clearly.

I think it was speculated that he said "Take your base" or "Take your ****** base"

I've heard different version - one says Young admitted that it was intentional and told Lee to, "Take your **** base, bitch."

Well, with all due respect, Mobile is a small city in comparison, and Jake Peavy is somewhat of a local celebrity/hero since he was born and raised here. I'm sure anyone who has any sort of celebrity in that situation likely would've said the same thing, or at least some variation of it, like "You know, I play baseball for the Padres" or something like that. He was in a hurry to catch a plane and an airport officer told him he had to park his car first and he told the cop to go ahead and ticket him and he'd pay for it, and instead threw him in jail, from what I remember. I'm assuming the "I'm Jake Peavy" came somewhere between "Put your hands behind your back" and *click*

Matt Capps just got his suspension reduced from when he hit Prince Fielder on May 5th so Lee might not have to sit out for awhile... but knowing how suspensions work against the Cubs he'll probably be denied his appeal tomorrow.

Oh, that was the situation this past off season at an airport (I believe in Alabama). He had his car parked in a no parking zone and a cop approached him and told him to move it and I think that is when he uttered that line. Atleast, I think was how the situation played out. Well, needless to say the cop was none too happy.

I was expecting a 6 game suspension, so I'm not surprised at this. I think they should stipulate that the suspension for pitchers must begin 3 days after that that pitcher's last appearance before serving the suspension in order to actually penalize them more than pushing back their next start by one day without having to treat pitchers differently than other players in terms of suspension length.

Someone called in WGN or the score closely afterward. He said his friend read his lips. . The pitcher (young right?) said. . .

Young - Are you alright?

Lee - Yeah (and even I could clearly see that in the replay)

Young - Then take your base you #*@*#*@.

Lee - What!? (again you can see this in the replay)

Young - began to repeat himself before the punch.

Lee reacted to the fact he almost got hit in the face, and then this fatso pitcher EGGS him on after hitting him in his previously injured wrist? If MLB could know the whole story fatso would get 3 missed starts and lee would get a day. . . . . if they were fair. .

When I saw the replay the first couple of times, I could have sworn Young was saying "I wasn't throwing at you" right before Lee swung at him.
