From the Daily Herald:

The versatile Mark DeRosa gives Lou Piniella another option at first base if Lee does miss an extended period.

DeRosa has been subbing for the injured Aramis Ramirez at third base, but Ramirez is scheduled to come off the 15-day disabled list Friday, freeing up DeRosa.

“I’ll do whatever,” DeRosa said. “I don’t have a problem with it.”

But Ward will get first shot at first base.

“He can play some first base,” Piniella said. “I think we’ll probably go that way.

This is an easy choice. Ward is an upgrade over Lee according to his Defensive Zone Rating. He doesnt have to make up much with his bat to counter his defensive upgrade over Lee. Nah, j/k.

I think we should rotate everyone around the diamond on a game by game basis, just so we can get a feel of who can play what positions. For all we know, Soriano might be a great catcher, or Pie might be the second coming of Ozzie Smith at SS.

I'm just glad to know ward will be back by the time lee has to serve his suspension. Ward ain't a bad offensive replacement for lee for 5 days. Not at all. It would be even MORE interesting if we were anywhere near .500 though. .

Woulda been cool to let Hoffpauir get a cup of tea but this would be the right and expected move.
