That's because Lawrence was the heart of the Kansas anti-slave movement. Because of that (and because of some dodgy stuff done by the Jayhawkers,) it was burned down during Quantrill's raid, and a lot of people were killed.

 

So yeah, they're still pretty proud of it, and all that stuff is part of the reason why KU/MU are rivals.

i'm well aware of what Quantrell and his bushwhackers did, meh, im too drunk and tired to even try, lets just say i'm a southern sympathiser and call it a dAy....slavery was going to be phased out sooner than later(new technologies)...the war of northern aggression was a war over taxation without representation

Before moving away from the Chicago area, I used to laugh at this phrase and those who uttered it. Five years in GA and a little bit of real reading changed a thing or two about my perspecti---

I get why some folks don't like OMC's politics. That kind of thing tends polarize, especially in today's environment.

 

I don't understand why the fact that OMC played college ball and is proud of it is such a problem for so many. If I played DI ball in the nation's best conference I'd be damn proud of myself, and rightfully so.
