I apologize if this was talked about in the Games thread, but I was not about to sift through 138(!) pages.

Was there an argument between Rich and Michael during the game? I heard someone say something about it, but I live near St. Louis and we don't get comcast on our basic cable package... so I don't get to see but 5-6 games/year on WGN (since most of them that wgn does broadcast are day games whilst i'm at work)...

Anywho... if this is true, what is michael's problem!?

Nah, it's worth discussion.

All comments to the media aside, this makes it seem Barrett is a real hot head. Being in two shouting matches in a month can't be just a coincidence. I'm actually somewhat looking forward to Blanco coming off the DL. Barrett should probably be traded while he still has some trade value left. He's not under contract past this season and is pretty cheap. The team that trades for him will probably have a real good shot at resigning him, since he's shot up a lot of his FA value with his awful play and public displays of idiocy. He also plays a position it's tough to find offense at. We probably should be able to get a B prospect for him.

This season is looking more and more like an obvious fire sale situation. I'd say that if it hasn't turned around by the break, then Hendry should fall on his sword, trade away anyone making over 4M that can be traded, and give as much payroll room as he can to the next owner/GM.

Don't forget MB versus Lou after MB got picked off 2nd. They were definitely shouting at each other.

Throw in the Oswalt incident and AJP, and there's more evidence of his hot headedness.

If we're going to entertain the thought of the Cubs w/out Barrett, then it begs the question of how soon do we expect Jake Fox to be a viable option behind the plate? I heard they're also playing him at 1st (maybe OF, too?), but do we see him as an option as our backstop? Do we need to start exploring trades for a catcher?

I like Barrett as a Cubs player, but his place on the roster has become, at least, questionable. Just my 5c. Thoughts?

Indeed, I remembered AJP, but had forgotten about the thing with Oswalt. I suppose we can live with a hot head catcher when he's got an OBP over .350, but when he's hitting as bad as he is now, it's a little harder to tolerate.

Yeah, I don't want to trade him because he can't play D or because he is a hot head. I want to trade him because this is a lost year, I don't want to sign him to an extension, and he still has some value. I just wish I could trust our GM to target the right kind of players in a fire sale.

Not sure if I'm on board with a fire sale but I think we should trade Barrett if we can find a good deal. He has value and I'm not really interested in signing him to an extension.

Is this really a lost year??? The Cubs aren't playing that great, but who else is in our division. The first place Brewers just got embarrassed last night. The concern may be with how we compete in the postseason, but if Wild Card baseball has shown us anything, it's that you just need some momentum going into the postseason. The Cubs are not out of it.

Brasky, I can't remember where, but I'd heard that Fox has been pretty much moved to the OF.

Wow, they must have wanted to fast-track him to be our 6th OF this year. Thanks for the info.

So all we really have available in the farm is Soto? If that's the case then nice 1st pick this year in the draft, Slim Jim.

Blanco is an upgrade at D, and right now (if he were healthy) his bat would be the equivalent of Barrett's

As disappointing as Barrett has been, that's simply not anywhere close to the truth.

In Barrett's defense (no pun intended), if you saw the tape of the argument, it seemed that Hill was more upset over his pitching than it was a fight with Barrett. Barrett was even trying to keep Hill calm during the entire thing. It took Rothchild stepping in before Hill was able to do so.

I don't really want a full scale fire sale. The core of Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Pie, Hill should be kept in tact and obviously guys like Lilly, DeRosa, Marquis etc can't really be traded, but I want to get good young talent for guys like Barrett and Zambrano, who are free agents after the year.

You're right, I went back an looked at Blanco's numbers and he's sub .200 with 0 HRs and 3 RBIs. I still like his defense over Barrett's. I also think he knows how to handle the pitchers better.
