wonder how har he can throw???

He threw in the mid 90's in high school. I doubt he'll be able to reach that again, but the Padres have to salvage something. Was this the worst #1 pick in professional sports over the last 10 years?

Depends on how you view it. In terms of talent, there's a good argument that he is. However, compared to the contracts #1 overall picks in other sports compared to him, I'd say probably not.

Some other candidates to consider...

Kwame Brown (NBA)

Michael Olowokandi (NBA)

Bryan Bullington (MLB)

Josh Hamilton (MLB, Arguable)

David Carr (NFL)

Courtney Brown (NFL)

Tim Couch (NFL)

If Ryan Leaf and Tony Mandrich weren't taken as the second pick they would be neck and neck in this debate and everyone else would be a distant third.

Easy Rider Jay Williams says hi.

Bullington?

Eh isn't he doing really well right now in AAA. I think he and Hamilton are at least guys who might struggle at the big league level. Bush never hit above .225 anywhere.

Don't forget about Mark Prior. In a draft with Mauer, Teixeira and Davis Wright in it you just knew the guy the Cubs were going to get wouldn't be worth crap in 5 years.

Going back a little bit......Pervis Ellison.

Bush is in danger of becoming the only #1 overall player to not make it to the majors (injured players excluded). Steve Chilcott and Brien Taylor's careers were ended by injuries and they're the only ones not to make it.

In case youre wondering, four number 2 picks have never made it.

1987 Mark Merchant drafted behind Ken Griffey Jr

1982 Augie Schmidt drafted behind Shawon Dunston

1980 Gary Harris drafted behind Darryl Strawberry

1975 Mike Lentz drafted behind Danny Goodwin

Bush was throwing 94-98 in his last outing in camp.

If that is so wtf took them so long to make this move?

yea but could he control it with a few off-speed pitches?

Who cares, at least it is a plus tool. As an offensive player he had none of these. Hell, he really couldn't even field all that well.

Bush had a pure 80/Furcal arm in HS and routinely sat at 94 touching high 90s off the mound.

Yeah, but did anyone really ever think he would hit enough to be a big league shortstop? At least one worthy of the number one pick? They probably should have went with someone else, anyone else.
