In that case, I really hope Cotts understands.

In other words, this organization doesn't understand what the heck they're doing.

They shipped out the wrong player. It should had been Eyre, regardless of contract or whatever else is in the way.

Zambrano has been pretty bad too so maybe they should DFA or send him to the minors also, right? Eyre has had one bad month, why in the world would they just dump him to keep around a mediocre Cotts who still has options. It makes no sense to throw away a guy that can still be an asset to the team either on the field or via trade at the deadline (when veteran lefties are overvalued) if the alternative (Cotts) is about equal in talent.

One bad month??? He had a 9.00 ERA in August last year, and a 7.71 ERA in September. His second-half ERA was 5.49. His overall ERA of 3.38 did a nice job of hiding an unsightly 1.48 WHIP, and this year he's been much worse than bad. His ERA is 7.23 with a WHIP of 2.37, so he's pretty much rendered himself unuseable except in blowouts, until he can prove that he can get hitters out. He's not going to be an asset at the trade deadline unless he actually returns to his 2005 form, which given the second half of last year and then the beginning of this year, is looking rather unlikely. He's worthless.

I have yet to see any article confirm that Marshall is called up.

Instead, I ran into This article.

Oh Christ. All this for Miller? He of the straight line 87 MPH fastball?

This organization deserves its place in history as the most futile organization in sports.

Happy happy joy joy.

freaking weirdos. this makes NO sense.

It's called adjusting. Man, are you gonna feel silly when they win it all.

I really dont understand why he'd join the team on Tuesday if it wasnt a call-up.

So Mark O'neal and/or Larry Rothschild can get a first hand look at him. Wood was with the team recently, joining the team just means he'll be there.

That being said this is the Cubs, so he'll start sometime this week.

Hopefully his arm literally separates from his torso in the process.

only way I see Miller back is as the long men out the pen barring any trades I think Marshall is the new fifth starter.

Didn't Jim Hendry agree to release/trade Wade Miller if he wasn't going to start for the Cubs? And Jim Hendry isn't the type to go back on his word. :?

I believe he came up last year for observation before he got called up. He definititely was there when the minor league season ended, but from looking back through the minor league logs, his last start was on August 23rd in the minors. After this start must have been when he joined the major league team (Iowa's season didn't end until September 4th, so he would have had another turn or two if he had stayed), and he wasn't officially called up in order to start on September 9th. So, even if he joins the team, that won't necessarily mean he gets activated right away, and hopefully never.

But come on... Hasnt Eyre been a lot worse then him?

Yes, but Eyre's contract gets in the way. If he refuses to go on the DL, they either have to trade or release him. They aren't likely to be willing to eat that money for this year and next year unless they absolutely have to-they'd rather keep him, hope he gets better, and then either keep him or raise his trade value.

:x

Holy cow, Omar. I just saw that you are in Romeoville. My father-in-law always jokes that I have that town "wired" 'cause my batchelor party was at Crazy Rock (I think that was the name) and we won money ever time we went to the OTB (which is now closed).

I even have a Spartans t-shirt.

I agree, if I properly recall, Marshall had problems with pitch location along with pitching behind in the count. Which is, as we know, Dempster' career MO, just don't get how this move is going to help. Why not let Guzman remain the 5th starter, send down Cotts and call up Pignatiello?

Well, he's already done this once. After his start with Tennessee, he came to the Shea pen to have Piniella look at him. The article never says that he's being called up, just coming up to the big leagues and that he feels he's ready. Bad writing on Carrie's part.
