I'm looking forward to Renshaw's start...as for the other 3, I may be able to catch a few balls they give up all the way down here.

Not going to see the Smokies tonight, but hope to go Sat, Sun, and Mon so I can watch Holliman, Gallagher, and Veal.

Oh...and I scored autographs from Veal and Gallagher before the game last night!

Pitcher Al Alburquerque will be activated and pitch in relief either today or over the weekend at Beloit before possibly returning to the starting rotation.

any word on Peoria's starter for Sunday? I'll be at the game.

Alex Maestri would be on 4-days rest but his last time out was his first professional start so he might be back in the pen. Peoria's rotation is messed up right now with all the injuries (Ceda, Dolis and Muldowney are on the DL; Alburquerque just came off the DL but will go to the pen).

Nate?

By the by, Cubs.com says Ryan Harvey was sent back to EXST after he re-injured his hamstring while at Daytona:

Ryan Harvey was sent to the Cubs' extended spring facility in Mesa, Ariz., because he reinjured his hamstring. In 11 games at Daytona, Harvey was hitting .250 (11-for-44) with two homers and five RBIs. He has not played since May 7.

Go me? I find it hard to root for myself when I'm doing as poorly as I am. :(

Way to exude that self-confidence that is making you so successful!

Stop being hittable and start missing some bats.

Daytona down 1-0 in the middle of the third. Taylor: 3 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 K/1 BB.

Also in the FSL, Roger Clemens gave up a solo HR in the first inning and has given up 1 R in 2 IP.

Mark Reed gets the first hit for the Daytona Cubs, a 2-out single in the bottom of the 3rd. Still 1-0 Jupiter.

Sad news about Billek...and to think, Holliman was taken a few picks *after* Billek.

About Hernandez...YES!

Brian, you should go on Saturday...

Maybe I should listen to the game more often. This was the first Daytona game I've listened to all year. Too bad they lost.

When I saw the cryptic message from ChiefsVoice that made it sound like Hernandez was getting the call I was hoping for Sunday, I won't be able to make it out tomorrow :(

Maybe that's why you were struggling before tonight. You need to listen to the game at the same time you're pitching.

IowaCubs.com"]Wood's arm, Botts' bat lead R-Hawks

Mike Wood tossed a six-hitter and Jason Botts drove in five runs as Oklahoma pounded Iowa, 9-3, on Friday night.

Making his first appearance since April 28, Wood (3-0) walked one and struck out seven to win his third straight start. The 27-year-old right-hander threw 71 of 107 pitches for strikes in his first complete game since 2004, when he was with Sacramento.

Botts, who went 3-for-4 and with three runs scored, smacked a three-run homer, his fourth, in the fourth. He also hit an RBI groundout in the first, singled and scored in the third and delivered a run-scoring double in the eighth.

Tug Hulett had three hits and scored three runs to help the RedHawks (20-20) snap a season-high four-game losing streak.

Cubs starter J.R. Mathes (4-3) gave up a season-high seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three in four innings.

Eric Patterson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to 11 games for Iowa (23-18). --Steve Conley/MLB.com

Daytona, Even at .500

By: Jeanine Jiannetti

[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] The Daytona Cubs drop game two to the Jupiter Hammerheads (18-23), 8-1 Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The loss puts the Cubs losing streak at five-games, leveling their record to 20-20.

The Cubs three singles were no match for the Hammerheads 12, which included three doubles. Mark Reed (1-3), Jesus Valdez (1-2) Tyler Colvin (1-3), Matt Matulia (0-3), and Chris Amador (0-3), were the only Daytona players to reach base safely. Daytona’s only run came on a Valdez sacrifice fly that scored Matulia.

Cubs starter, Scott Taylor, went six complete innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks, while fanning only one to receive the loss.

New-comer, Tim Layden allowed for most of the damage from Jupiter. Layden permitted five runs, all earned on five hits, walking one while striking out one in just one inning of play in his first appearance in Daytona in 2007.

The Cubs defense committed four errors on the night that helped to confirm their fifth straight loss.

PeoriaChiefs.com"]Chiefs Fall To Snappers 4-2

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs fell for the third straight game to the Beloit Snappers 4-2 on Friday evening at O’Brien Field .The Chiefs are now 20-19 on the season and fall 4.5 games back of the first place Snappers.

The Chiefs threatened two different times in the first three innings but continued to struggle with runners in scoring position. Wellington Castillo led the second inning off with a single and Yusuf Carter reached by an error by the shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz but Dylan Johnston would strike out to end the inning.

The newest member of the Chiefs Ryne Malone picked up his first hit in the third inning followed by a single by Josh Lansford. Castillo later walked to load the bases but Yusuf Carter grounded out to end the rally

Beloit broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when Danny Valencia connected on a solo home run to left center field on the first pitch from Chiefs starter Jake Renshaw. Johnny Woodard singled into right followed by a single by Joe Benson to give Beloit runners on the corners with no one out. Danny Santiesteban picked up a bloop single into shallow left center to score Woodard and make it 2-0. Ortiz added an infield RBI single to short for the fifth hit of the inning plating the third run.

Malone led the fifth inning off with a double to the gap in right center for his first double of the season and second hit in as many at bats. Lansford followed with his third hit of the game to score Malone to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Woodard hit his second home run of the series off Chiefs reliever Oscar Bernard in the eighth inning to push the lead to 4-1 for the Snappers. Bernard has allowed three home runs this season.

Russ Canzler drove a double down the left field line to lead off the eighth inning and came around to score on a Yusuf Carter ground out to cut the deficit to 4-2. Canzler is now second on the team in doubles with six and Carter picked up his team high 20th RBI.

Gorman’s Pub Player of the Game: Josh Lansford (3B)- Josh finished the game by going 3-for-4 with all three hits coming in his first three at bats. Josh also drove in one of the two Chiefs runs in the game with a single in the fifth inning. Lansford finished the series 7-for-11 with three runs batted in.

Notes… The 3-4-5 hitters in the Beloit line up went 6-for-10 with two home runs, four walks, and accounted for all four runs scored…The Chiefs scored three runs in the final three games of the series after scoring three in the first game on Tuesday…

We'll be up in Beloit for both Chiefs games this weekend, so will do my best to provide some (uneducated) info on the new guy. Will also be interested in how they do security for Ryne, as this is one of those parks that you have to walk across the concourse to get from the visiting clubhouse to the visiting dugout.

Will try and get some pictures too. Tonight I was bummed out as I lost out on my pink jersey bid. Backup plan was to bid on the live auction for the team jersey - it went for $1000 (too rich for my blood) while Ryne's went for $1500. A great cause, but I should have put bids on more than 1 jersey. Definitely more competition than the last time around!
