Daytona News-Journal interview with Daytona SS Matt Matulia.

Daytona News-Journal story on Matt Matulia, Jerry Blevins and Jon Mueller:

The most interesting transformation has been Blevins. The 6-foot-6 lefty has been unreal. Last year, he had an 0-1 record and 9.00 ERA in eight games for Daytona. This year, he's 1-0 with a 0.40 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings over 14 games. And he's spotting a fastball that's hitting 92 and 93 mph. That's big-league material.

Knoxville News Sentinel[/url]"]Miller Time: Chicago pitcher Wade Miller, who was placed on the disabled list by the Cubs on April 23 because of back spasms, will arrive Monday to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Smokies.

The veteran right-hander will start Tuesday's 11:30 a.m. game against Chattanooga.

"I haven't talked to anyone about his pitch count," said Listach, who expects Miller to go three innings. "I'll find out (today)."

The 30-year-old from Wyomissing, Pa., signed with the Cubs as a minor league free agent in 2006 and missed most of last season recovering from shoulder surgery. He started three games for the Cubs this season and was 0-1 with a 10.94 earned-run average.

The Iowa game has been...interesting. Ronny Cedeno was at bat, and a man scored from 2nd on two consecutive passed balls. Also, Patterson scored on a Pie triple in the second. Iowa is up 10-3 in the 5th.

Micah Hoffpauir and Koyie Hill each have a HR and every I-Cub starter has a hit besides DH Mike Kinkade. Iowa leads it 10-4 in the 5th inning.

Peoria is in a rain delay, tied at 1 in the third inning. Renshaw struck out the side in the first inning: 2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB.

Patterson just homered for the third straight day.

Yeah, Iowa continues to rake... it's 13-4 with the Cobs having scored 2, 4, 1, 3 and 3 in the first five innings.

Patterson 2-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI (BA .339)

Pie 2-4, 3B, 1 R, 2 RBI (BA .463)

Fontenot 3-4, 2B, 3 R, 1 RBI (BA .366)

Hoffpauir 3-4, 2B, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI (BA .301)

K. Hill 1-3, BB, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI (BA .321)

All in all, 11-19 with 2 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 10 R and 11 RBI from the top 5 of the lineup. Good stuff!

Ronny Cedeño is 1/2 with another walk too. And he stayed in after the walk, so it looks like he didn't sprain his ankle this time.

ANOTHER walk for Ronny! Iowa has the bases loaded on back-to-back-to-back walks by Moore, Cedeño and EPatt. They're up 13-6.

Seriously, just call up EPatt already.

To do what? Start ahead of DeRosa or Theriot?

And this EPatt stat is ugly: 24 K:8 BB.

and gameday just went screwy, as it has Pie at bat again. Oh, now Hoffpauir is shown grounding out. Men at first and third, 2 outs. And now Hill singles Pie in. First and second, 2 outs.

I wish I was at this game.

Peoria is back from the rain delay and they promptly put up a 4-spot in the 5th inning.

Renshaw stayed in after the delay: 4 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 4 K/0 BB, 1 HBP.

Gosh, Jake Renshaw is on fire. 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 6 K/1 BB, 1 HBP. His ERA is down to 1.29. Peoria up 5-1.

Sorry, all the other people on here are rubbing off on me. I posted that without even thinking.

Patterson walked yet again in the 8th. Final line (most likely): 2/4, 2 BB, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 0 K.

Pie ends up 3/6 with a triple, 2 runs, 3 RBI, and 1 K.

No, you're right... he should be called up

But in all seriousness, he'll likely increase his walk rate, which right now is 9 BB in about 130 PA. But, his rate has been higher in previous season, and I'd expect it to increase. He's probably never going to have a great K/BB, but something around or slightly less than 2:1 can be expected. In (my) perfect world, he'll continue to improve this year at AAA and show that he deserves a spot on next year's club... then DeRosa can be a super-sub or a platoon partner against LHP next year while Patterson plays most of the time against RHP.
