A lot of people are understandably excited about the team's last week. I also am, but when looking at the schedule ahead I see one possible problem point-left-handers.

The Cubs were terrible against left-handed pitching last year. Can they be better this year? They at least should be, but that has yet to be proven in their major league low 3 games against LHP this year. In fact, those struggles have continued against this limited sample.

After Tuesday, the Cubs face LHP 5 out of their next 9 games, and most of those left-handers are quality pitchers. This will be an interesting test for the offense.

I would think we should be fine against LHP. Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez are all good hitters who do slightly better against LHP(being RH hitters). Barrett, DeRosa, and Murton are okay to above average hitters who have fairly large platoon splits in that they all rake against LHP. That's 6 guys who put up at least an .850 OPS against LHP.

It's usually the crappy, soft-throwing journeyman or rookie lefthanders we have problems with. I'm confident we'll handle Glavine and Hamels well.

This should mean that Murton will see a lot of action in the near future. Hopefully he can put a solid string together so that Lou has no choice but to continue to play him, regardless of whether or not Floyd is healthy.

The problem is Murtons not better than Floyd against righties so why should a hot streak make a difference....durrr

What are you basing that on?

We'll see; Hamels looked pretty durn good against the Reds.

Why do you have to be so condesending in almost every post you make? You seem like an intelligent person, but you are terrible at expressing it.

The Brewers' schedule gets a lot tougher after they play Washington, so we should have a chance to make some ground up if we stay hot.

I agree about the condescending.

Unfortunately ours does too.

Actually, if you look at the Brewers and Cubs schedules, they play the same teams (save the interleague series). It's pretty interesting how closely they match:

Cubs: PIT 4/30-5/2
MIL: PIT 5/3-5/6

Cubs: WSH 5/4-5/6
MIL: WSH 5/7-5/9

Cubs: PHI 5/11-5/13
MIL: PHI 5/14 5/17

MIL: NYM 5/11-5/13
Cubs: NYM 5/14-5/17

Cubs: CWS 5/18-5/20
MIL: MIN 5/18-5/20

Cubs: SD 5/22-5/24
MIL: SD 5/25-5/27

MIL: LAD 5/21-5/23
Cubs: LAD 5/25-5/27

Cubs: FLA 5/28-5/30
MIL: FLA 6/01-6/3

MIL: ATL 5/28-5/30
Cubs: ATL 6/01-6/3

Cubs vs MIL 6/4--6/6

Cubs: WSH, PIT, CWS, FLA, and ATL at home.

MIL: PIT, WSH, MIN, ATL, FLA, and the Cubs at home

Both teams have two road trips in May that are 7 games and 6 games respectively.
