Des Moines Register[/url]"]Soto stepped to the plate as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning Monday against Nashville, two runners on base and the Cubs trailing by two runs against hard-throwing Jose Capellan.

Throw in the fact that there were two outs, and what remained of an announced crowd of 4,522 had drama at Principal Park.

Soto sent the fifth pitch sailing well beyond the fence in left field, and the Cubs' 6-5 win snapped a three-game losing streak.

He was having a little issue of control," Soto said. "I was letting him pitch, but I was going to be aggressive with a pitch I could handle."

Soto said he was not looking to hit the Cubs' first walk-off homer since Luis Montanez did it last August against New Orleans.

"I'm up there just trying to keep the rally going," he said.

Soto went 5-for-5 in an 8-5 loss at Memphis Sunday.

Monday, he hit his first homer since last season while providing Iowa's first win after trailing through seven innings.
