Now that Theriot is playing SS do you think Soriano would move down in the order? I'd like to see something along the lines of:

Theriot SS

Lee 1B

Soriano LF

Ramirez 3B

Barrett C

Jones/Floyd/Murton

Derosa 2B

Pie CF

Theriot hasn't been walking as much as I would like, and I would rather not see DLee batting 2nd. Bat Barrett 2nd, followed by Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, and I could live with that.

Until Lee shows he can get back just some of his pre-injury power consistently, I think he's by far the best #2 option on the team and would thrive in that role. If the Cubs wised up and were able to trade Zambrano for a serious impact bat, I'd move Lee to #2 in a heartbeat.

Theriot as SS is more than a one game experiment?

has he done anything for it not to be?

Shouldn't Lou ask Soriano to bat in the middle of the order instead of leading off. Theriot, Murton, Lee, ARam, Soriano, Barrett, Derosa, Pie sounds like the best possible lineup in terms of producing runs. Batting Floyd or Barrett on occasion wouldn't hurt the lineup. I know that the suggested lineup is really right-handed, but good hitters are good hitters irregardless of which side of the plate in which they stand.

I would also love to see that line-up... But that would mean Jacque Jones would be benched which wont happen. Most likely a trade.

I thought WHERE a person bats in a lineup has very little to an insignificant effect on runs scored. As long as our best hitters are in the lineup, I don't think it matters where he bats.

There is no way that the batting order has an insignificant effect on runs scored...

So if we put our best hitters 7th, 8th, and 9th, it wouldn't affect the number of runs scored? Obviously, you bat your best OBP hitters 1st and 2nd, with the RBI hitters 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th, if for no other reason than they will bat more often during the game (and season).

Basically, the research says that any reasonable lineup won't make a big difference. Obviously sticking your pitcher 1 and your worst hitters 7-9 will hurt, but shifting your 1-5 around doesn't seem to make much difference

Personally, I like making up line-ups. Because it's fun. I'd go with:

1. Theriot, SS

2. Murton, RF

3. Lee, 1B

4. Soriano, LF

5. Ramirez, 3B

6. Barrett, C

7. DeRosa, 2B

8. Pie, CF

9. Pitcher

OK with me except I'd switch around Soriano and Rammy.

We all know Soriano is not moving out of the leadoff spot so this is what I think would be fine:

Soriano RF

Theriot SS

Lee 1B

ARam 3B

Murton LF

Barrett C

DeRosa 2B

Pie CF
