From Cubs.com:

Piniella has been using several different lineup combinations in an effort to learn his players. He said he will likely stick with Tuesday's lineup. It featured left fielder Alfonso Soriano leading off, followed by Felix Pie in center, first baseman Derrek Lee, third baseman Aramis Ramirez, catcher Michael Barrett, right fielder Jacque Jones, second baseman Mark DeRosa and shortstop Cesar Izturis.

Is this a case of Lou Piniella actually planning to play Tuesday's lineup going forward or Carrie Muskat doing what she does best by writing a turd of an article?

Lou said in his postgame press conference last night that, outside of a few changes from time to time, he would go with a daily set lineup.

Tribune

"I said we'd get constant at some point, and we're at that point now," Piniella said.

Suntimes

...But he said he's going to stick to a more constant lineup now that he has mixed and matched through three weeks.

''You're not going to see big changes,'' he said. ''Might have a little one here or a little one there, but that's it. We're going to stay as constant as we can.''

Daily set lineup, yes. But, did he specifically say it was the lineup he fielded on Tuesday?

Pretty much every writer insinuated the same thing.

wow, that's not a good lineup construction.

Today's lineup:

Theriot, SS

Floyd, LF

Lee, 1B

Ramirez, 3B

Barrett, C

Jones, RF

DeRosa, 2B

Pie, CF

Lilly, P

Maybe he was high last night when he said he was sticking with yesterday's lineup.

Maybe his idea of tweaks here & there falls more in line with other people's idea of major overhauls. That's hilarious.

Or maybe he just once again said something he didn't plan on sticking to. He seriously needs to run for mayor or something.

Is it just me, or has Lou done a whole lot of "say one thing, do something else"?

They need to figure out how to make those Mission Impossible masks for all the players in the lineup not named Ramirez or Theriot, and then just have Aramis and Ryan bat every time up.

Maybe he implied to keep playing most of the same, but not the exact same lineup - and especially not Tuesday's.

Speaks volumes about the kind of material Carrie puts together.

This wasn't just Carrie. All of the newspapers implied or outright said the same thing.

it makes me think sulley is right when he says a lot of what lou says is "scripted".

Show me those sources. I'm a Tribune subscriber and I didn't see that in today's paper. Neither did I read about it on the Sun Times online. I've only seen it on cubs.com

From the Trib:

Piniella's starting lineup included Alfonso Soriano and Felix Pie in the 1-2 slots, while hot-hitting Ryan Theriot, batting .415 over his last 10 games, was on the bench for the second straight day.

"I said we'd get constant at some point, and we're at that point now," Piniella said.

To me that implied that it was a lineup he was sticking with...

The way I read it is it says Lou feels they need to start finding that one line-up he can send out there daily. Not so much that he's going to stick with the one from Tuesday, but that he's going to use that as the core line-up and make adjustments as necessary.
