But that doesn't really get us to 12 pitchers...just swaps them out...
As long as the pitcher called up is a reliever, however, it has the same effect. The Cubs don't need a fifth starter for awhile, so the immediate need is for 7 relievers as opposed to 12 total pitchers. By the time the 5th starter is needed Guzman will be eligible to be called back up.

The Score is reporting that Rocky Cherry is at Wrigley Field.

Awesome. Who's out though?

George Ofman was speculating Wade Miller but he also said "nothing is official yet." This might go right down to gametime.

To your point, looking at the schedule, the next 2 times the Cubs need a 5th starter are May 1 and May 12. Technically, couldn't they bring Angel up on the 1st to start, send him down after the game to Iowa for another reliever, and then recall him again on the 12th?

What do we get out of him though; Rocky Road or Cherry Pie?

Please tell me he walks out to Warrant's Cherry Pie.

Is that true if Miller is sent down due to an "injury"?

Steven Stone is on B&B right now speculating that Wade Miller has made his last start for the Cubs.

The Score

That's why I have hope for the Cubs. Lou is results oriented.

Stone is saying we shouldn't trade Jones because he's there as insurance for Floyd being hurt. We have to have that big LH bat in the lineup. First of all, when did Jones become a big LH bat? Secondly, Stone should never, ever become a GM.

Now he's saying Pie needs to be put in the leadoff spot in the lineup when he goes back down to the minors because he's got speed and he should be in that spot. What an idiot.

Let's hope he isn't involved in the new ownership

Steve Stone is an no-doubt idiot when it comes to baseball roster decisions and evaluation.

At the top of the hour, Stone also said he was surprised that Marmol didn't get the callup over Cherry. I think the Cubs want to keep him in the rotation at AAA for a while longer. Cherry will help with the bullpen... The Cubs don't need another 5th starter until May 1.

Yeah, he needs to stick to broadcasting. The more he talks about "what he'd do", the more I want to stick cotton in my ears. He has no idea what he's talking about.

It doesn't help that he's treated like a demigod by every Score host. I've never heard anyone counter one of his points or ideas, not even the beyond stupid Manny and Mueller for ARam deal he was pimping in 2005.

Yeah...I basically only took out of that interview that he didn't like the Derosa signing and thinks Pie will go down...great.

Not sure why Pie isn't playing...I guess its to let Jones play center for a bit and if he can then Pie goes back down?

It's not over. Monday he's in studio for 2 hours (4pm-6pm).

And a hypocrite. Several years ago he was critical of the Cubs front office for letting Cedeno win the starting job based on his limited success in the majors, and now he is critical of the Cubs front office for not giving Theriot a shot at second base because he was great with the big club last season. Pick and choose your battles Steve...heres hoping you are no where near the front office of this team when ownership changes.

This may be considered old news but David Kaplan just reported on WGN radio that Wade Miller was put on the DL with back spasms and Rocky Cherry has been called up to provide bull pen help.

Also MP will have exploratory arthroscopic surgery tomorrow.

The DL option huh? Well, that gives one of the young guys a chance next Tuesday. It's their job to make sure that they pitch well enough to make sure that he can't come back in the rotation without some major injuries.
