This team has to get on a hot streak NOW before the losing gets too much worse or we'll still be digging ourselves out in July.

Today certainly won't help. Lou has to get them motivated and put the dumbass play by Cedeno behind them.

I don't know what he has to do. Benchings? Maybe. Finings for stupid mental mistakes? Most definately. But he needs to do something and he needs to turn this around NOW.

I won't buy the "It's only April" argument. These games are just as important as the ones in September. And if you fall too far back in April, you spend most of the rest of the year playing catch-up.

I agree. We gotta start winning now. The division isn't going to get too crazy, but we don't want to be a buttload of GB out in May. It's time to start manning up here and take care of business, you worthless piece of crap sorry excuse for a baseball team losers.

I agree that we need to turn it around fairly quickly, but as bad as we've been we're only 3.5GB of 1st. The offense will come around eventually, once Soriano, ARam, DLee, and Barrett all get going at the same time this offense will take off.

I think I have heard that story before. Was not a Baker lover, but this team does not look much different than year's past. Stupid mistakes, inconsistent, but now more expensive.

The team is more expensive but we've also got more talent. We didn't lose anybody important from last year. We upgraded CF and 2B, plus DLee has been healthy so far. At the very least, Lou has been throwing different lineups out trying to get something to click and he's brought in additional coaches to try and remedy our problems quickly instead of just making excuses. Our pitching is finally coming together and this team is no longer dependent on Prior or Wood.

So when are the gonna start playing like they actually care? When.

Time to start winning some series. My goal for the remaining 9 games this month is 6-3. That would put the Cubs at 12-13 for the month of April with some nice winnable series awaiting in those first two weeks of May.

I might be losing my edge but I just continue to have a good feeling about this team. I know the season thus far has feature a lot of the ugliness that helped make 2006 forgettable but I really do have faith the tide is going to turn soon. The starting pitching continues to encourage me, Z's early struggles aside.

OK, I missed it. What was the dumbass Cedeno play?

3-2 call on jones, he walked. Cedeno was off running, slid slightly PAST the base. Eck made a big deal about it, and because eck was able to slightly push C's foot off the bag as he was PAST the base. Big C was called out. C is doing very poorly but the more I think about it the more we've gotta get back at them by winning.

I've been listening to a lot of the opposing teams' radio broadcasts and several times it has been brought up that it will take at least until the ASB to get the Cubs on Lou's page. That's a pretty good point, IMO.

Dusty messed this team up bad. One ST and a few games aren't going to fix the stuff these guys forgot or never knew.

This team does suck right now, but it's got a lot of very solid pieces.

None of it would have happened, though, if Jones hadn't swung at an awful 3-1 pitch.

Situational awareness. Ronny didn't even look back at home. Even if he had and a walk didn't occur there, he would have been out for coming off the bag. He's a better player than what he's showed so far, but he's been making a ton of stupid mistakes.

Would it be overly snarky to mention that Ronny needs to find a clue about the location of second base both offensively and defensively?

It's all well and good that the Cubs are in a weak division. The problem is that the Cubs are playing that weak division constantly so far and losing.

We have played decently, albeit in a small sample size, outside of our division though earning splits with SD and Atl.

Yes, outside the division. My point was that inside the division, the Cubs aren't playing well.

Since everyone says it's a weak division.

The Cubs have a bad history of playing down to the level of the opponent unfortunately. Even all of the years that Milwaukee sucked, they still owned us and Pitt does pretty good against us as well. SD and Atl are 2 of the better NL teams right now and we faired decently against them so maybe we start playing outside of the division more, we'll do a little better.

And they usually get owned by the crappiest pitchers. 5IP shutout by David Weathers, and just taken over by AAA call-ups.. Yet they still managed to score on guys like Roger Clemens and Oswalt.

This team sucks and will continue to suck until they prove otherwise.

I have said it before and I will say it again. This is a team that expects to lose right now. Last years hangover is what we are watching.

When they learn to win as a team, then things will click. Ever wonder why players go to StL and turn career years while they are there? Its because the Cardinals expect to win. TLR will not expect less so players play up to that.

Baker, from appearances, never held the vets accountable and it filters down to the kids. I have no doubt that Ronnie feels worse about yesterday than any of us do. The difference is that Lou is going to teach and get his message across.

I liken the situation right now to your neighbor giving you a dog because its going to the bathroom all over the neighbors house. Then you find out that your neighbor never house trained the dog.

Welcome to Chicago Lou.

It's going to be a struggle for this team to get to .500. At this point we'd have to win what, five in a row? Can't see that happening considering we've only got two in a row so far, and no signs of change or improvement coming soon.

The fact of the matter is that this is an awful baseball team with an outside chance of setting a Cubs historical benchmark for futility.

This team has a lot of very bad baseball players and its good players are wildly overrated.

Based on pythags, this is a 9-7 team. Right now, they are underperforming based on RS/RA.

While I'm as disapointed as anyone, with the current team record, it's still really early. There's time to turn it around and I think it is possible for that to happen.

This team has had 10 quality starts already. They're 6-4 in those games. Their pitchers have given up 13 earned runs in 67 innings for a 1.75 ERA in those starts. Ouch.

The quality-start breakdown: Lilly (4), Hill (3), Marquis (2), Zambrano (1).
