Getting to be crunch time

For whatever reason, they don't seem to want to put Theriot at SS.

 

Lord knows why. I'm pretty sure he played SS his whole time at LSU, and has played some SS in the minors. At worst he'd be adequate, and his bat is so much better than Izturis/Cedeno that it'd make up for the difference in defense.

 

Yeah. My guess is they don't think his arm is strong enough to play SS, but hell that hasn't stopped Eckstein.

 

right, just teach him to do that video game "power up" move that eckstein does before he throws across the diamond

Heck, there's little leaguers with more of an arm than Eckstein, his arm can't be that bad.

I doubt Lou will keep going with Izturis if he continues to struggle. I also doubt Cedeno is long for the majors playing the way he is.

Thus, I wouldn't be surprised to see Theriot begin to get some time at short soon. It seems that Lou is giving Izturis a little extra time - why, I'm not sure.

I'd be nice if the cubs could actually WIN one of these exciting games like today and catapult them off to a nice 9 game winning streak. But the pessimistic side of me says, it's never going to happen.

 

Shocking I said that, eh? I've watched every single Cubs game this year. This is what it has done to me. Now I understand all of the pessimistic attitudes around here. I've only been watching full time, since 2004.

I don't see why DeRosa has anything to do with it. He was a risky signing, granted, and I was one of many that weren't fully on board at the time, but he's turned out to be valuable so far (it is still early).

 

Having DeRosa doesn't guarantee Theriot will be on the bench. If Theriot plays well and Izturis doesn't, I've seen no indication Riot won't play over Izzy. Also, Aramis and DeRosa will need days off so there's more playing time for Theriot, plus the outfielders will need some days off and when DeRosa spells them (which won't be a lot, but I expect some) there's even more time for Theriot.

 

Adding DeRosa only gave us more good depth. That's all.
