Brett Myers being moved to bullpen

My favorite part is his justification.

 

We think Myers will, over the course of the year, get in 65-70 games, probably. As a starter, it would be 35.

 

I suppose that's a true statement. Some might argue that 220 IP out of one of your best pitchers is better than 70 IP, but those people aren't stupid, so Manuel isn't persuaded.

 

On ESPN they showed the high/low lights of the argument he got into with the reporter and he said:

 

"I done growed up a long time ago"

How do I know this? Because on the way to Florida last year, I drove through Buena Vista, Virginia, and there was a sign upon entering the town that read "Home Town of Philadelphia Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel." My first reaction: "Is that really something worth bragging about?"

I wonder if Brett Myers said or did anything towards Manuel that got him demotion. I mean NO MANAGER with an active brain cell, would move his opening day starter to the bullpen before the first month of play is over.

 

Manuel is desparate, cause he know he isn't going to be keeping his job for long.

I hope he's not fired until this summer. I spend a lot of time with Philly fans during the summer and there always quite amusing in their disbelief about what's going on with the team. This is something that could carry on for quite some time.

I liked Meyer's response to a reporter who asked if he'd be able to throw harder since he was going to be working in shorter stints now. "Let me let you direct that question to my arm." He then put his arm up in the reporters face.

Actually, Phillies fans are probably feeling worse than we ever did. At least Dusty never tried to put Zambrano in the pen for an over-the-hill vet in his late 30s. I never thought I would see any manager in baseball ever make a move that was so dumb that it would singularly eclipse the stupidity of all of Dusty's dumb moves combined. That's how bad Manual is. I can't believe there was a time when I thought he was a good manager.
