cedeno's the least of the cubs' worries.

He just cost us a game, and it won't be the last. He's not the only concern, but he's pretty high on the list. Every time he gets in the game it's badness all around.

he helped cost us a game. He wouldn't have been in the spot he was if the rest of the Cubs offense didn't suck nuts today. Also, Pie should have pinch run, not Cedeno.

That said, he has failed miserably with just about every opportunity that has been given to him so far this eyar

Im not sure why you would use Pie as a pinch runner over Cedeno. Wouldnt it be better to save Pie's lefty bad for when you need a lefty pinch hitter than Ronny's bat. Pie hasnt been the best baserunner either, he SB isnt that great. Ronny was just the tie run, not winning.

As mentioned Fotenot is an intersting switch. Although im not sure how keen they are to that because he isnt playing SS in AAA and isnt that why ronny is on this roster? Theriot can play SS so i dont know why they really need a SS, just appears currently the Cubs Brass think they do. DUMB

he has 1 hit in 20 ABs, and was one of the worst players in baseball last year... I'd say his presence on the team is a pretty big worry

The fact that Pie needed to stay on the bench in that situation just further illustrates why Cedeno is a big concern. You can't throw Pie out there as a pinch runner every time. Sometimes, it's got to be Ronny. And he's brutal.

I try to be nice, but this kid should be spared further embarrassing himself and sent back to AAA where he belongs.

I don't think that's fair. Ronny had a good spring. I don't think he made the roster because they weren't comfortable with the depth at SS, but rather they felt he could continue his spring production and prove 2006 was the fluke, not 2005. If his ST performance would have carried over, he would have been a valuable addition to the bench. I think Ronny doesn't have the head to succeed at this level. AAAA player is the best description for him. The question is though, how many chances will the organization give him? Hill was as bad of a pitcher as Cedeno has been as a hitter until he finally got that first W under his belt. Many people on this board were convinced he couldn't handle the major league pressure, and were ready to write him off after his first stint last year. Obviously, the patience the organization showed with him paid off. That said, I think Ronny has gotten enough chances already, and it's time to move on. If Hendry/Lou agree with me, I think we'll see a move within the next week, if not sooner.

Cedeno really needs to go down and keep developing better discipline before he does anything. Please call up Fotenot!

I too was onboard with Ronny being on opening day roster, so i cant criticise them fairly for that. But now i do think a switch is in order. If they are going to bring someone up Fotenot makes the most sense but he is still currently just playing 3B. DeRosa, Theriot are the backups at 3b, its seems redundant for Fotentot to be playing 3B in AAA now. Thats the predictor im using and why im unsure it will happen quicker than its needed.

Buh-bye!

Are you saying that because he has been sent down? Just curious...

Question for the peanut gallery, Fontenot isn't on the 40 man, is he? I don't think he is, but I'm not sure.

I guess it wouldn't be a horrible loss if we dropped Ronny off of the 40 man and someone else picked him up.

Worst player in baseball last season isn't nearly as big a deal this year because he's not at the top of the depth chart. Still, 20 AB's? ouch. Guess his spring bought him some leash

Actually I'd say Hill is the least of the Cubs' worries. :D
Agreed. Cedeno is the worst player on the 25 man roster. Therefore, he should be the biggest worry the Cubs have.

This whole teams needs to be cleaned up and add some stability. Send Cedeno down to open up a spot for Cherry or another pitcher. Trade Jones to make room for Pie and go with Soriano LF, Pie CF, Floyd/Murton RF. This constant shifting around is PART of the problem. We need some stability and we need to try to "set" a certain outfeild and send the player down that are playing like absolute crap (cedeno). Lou said players that are not producing will be benched. Well it's time for him to prove it by asking hendry to send Cedeno down for a RP. That should be Lou's first move, and soon.

Great post! I feel that Lou is still in Spring Traning mode, testing all these outfields spots and lineups.

Thanks. That's how I feel. This team keeps on Losing. And Lou needs to do something to wake this team up. If Lou and Hendry keep sitting on their hands and not do a few things to "SHAKE THEM UP!" Then I blame them when the Cubs continue to struggle.

"Next time, I'll look to home plate," Cedeno said. "I've got to run. I was asking the first-base umpire [Angel Hernandez] because he speaks Spanish, and I said, 'What did I do?' He said, 'You passed the base.' I said, 'So what? It's ball four.' I never had that happen before -- must be new rules."

SEND HIM DOWN NOW!

I think the club will have to hang on to Cedeno a while longer simply out of necessity. It doesn't appear like they feel any of the others can play SS, and they will need a backup SS somewhere on the bench so they can pinch-hit for Izturis. There isn't really any help from the minors that the organization would bring up.

If the poor play of both Izturis and Cedeno continues, I can see a trade for a SS happening in June or July. It won't be A-Rod (IMO) or probably any of the other great SS's, but somebody average to above average will become available. At that time, they can demote Cedeno and keep Izturis in the backup role until they let him go after the season. Unfortunately, the team will probably just have to tread water on the SS issue until then, so hopefully one of Izturis or Cedeno will be able to pick up the pace a little bit.

Is it just me or does Piniella not seem to want to put Theriot at SS? With our offense struggling we will put any haphazard outfield combo out there but not Theriot at SS. Is he worse at SS than I have seen in his limited appearances there in the past?

I agree Cedeno needs to go down and I have wondered for several years why Fontenot has not been given a chance. He certainly couldnt be any worse than the revolving mess we had at 2nd base last year.

Lou started Theriot 1 game at SS in ST, and I don't think he played another inning there after that game. He does seem very unwilling to put Theriot at SS, considering that Theriot has spent time at 4 other positions and no time at SS, even in situations where it would have made more sense to put him in there (for example, in one game somebody pinch-hit for Izturis, and instead of Theriot switching to SS they took out another player to put Cedeno in). So until I see any other indications to the contrary, I'm not even considering Theriot at SS as something that management would do, no matter how much of an upgrade he might be.

Unless Theriot will be allowed to play SS than I dont think Cedeno will be leaving this team. Funny how Cedeno won the spot over Tomas Perez who didnt play much SS either.

This thread has me really appreciating the great play of Hill, Lee and A-Ram. We've got so much dead weight, it's sick, and then a manager that plays positions like they're chess pieces. I have a hard time watching the games at all.
