Ok, some quick thoughts:

Guzman could not have helped us today. He threw 2 innings yesterday, and do you really want to put that much stress on his arm by having him go out again? I'm glad that he wasn't here to get in this game-we are going to need his arm to be healthy so he can be the 5th starter.

Ohman is the LOOGY. He shouldn't face right-handed hitters. When you're forced to put in your LOOGY for a full inning because all your other guys have been used, you should expect to lose-even then, the loss is not on Ohman because of the terrible outfield defense in his inning.

The loss is on 2 things today:

1) The offense. Theriot, Lee, and Ramirez were the only people that were on base twice today, and in a game where home runs are almost impossible, that hurts. The 5-7 spots were our biggest undoing today-besides Ward's double in the 14th, those 3 spots were a combined 1-16 with 1 BB (Murton 0-5, Jones 1-6, Cedeno 0-5 with 1 BB). When the 2-3-4 hitters did get on their couple times, these 3 hitters could not get the job done today.

2) The (corner) outfield defense. Murton's really bad play led to at least 1 of the runs in the 1st. Theriot and Jones combined for the run in the 14th. That's half the runs the Padres scored right there.

THIS IS ON OHMAN :x :x :x :x :x :x

Don't you think it should be on whoever's bright idea it was to make room on the roster for Pie while deciding that both Ohman and Cedeno needed to stay?

Cedeno is the backup utility player. He's fine. Ohman just sucks!!!! I wanted him gone but I was fine with Guz going down because it sets up for him to be stretched out... In light of 14 innings and a burned through bullpen, it was the wrong move. Clearly.

Ohman is not endearing himself to anyone.

Cedeno is anything but fine. He doesn't have a bat and he routinely misplays easy groundballs at short. Fontenot would be a much better backup than Ronny is.

He's fine for what he does. ideally, you won't see him too much. He's the backup's backup

So what exactly is he good for? His BA that is hovering around .050? His inability to take walks? His ability to take strike 3 right down the middle for the final out?

I defended him last year, a bunch. But he just looks so clueless at the plate.

Ronny isn't here for his bat. Ronny has played fine in the field. Ohman is in a position to have a greater impact on the team; He should be the odd man out.

It's going to feel even better when Soriano doesn't play for 15 days +

Exactly. Hendry of all people should know that if 7-10 days is the initial prognosis, 15 is almost a guarantee. He may not think that Cedeno or Ohman qualify as wastes of a roster spot, but now Sori certainly does.

If we don't call up an extra arm between now and tomorrow's game, our bullpen is going to be in deep doodoo. Thanks Jim.

It's a shame that our corner OF defense ruined the day for our great infield and CF defense.

I just assumed -- or maybe more accurately, since this is the cubs, hoped -- that Guzman was sent down to be stretched out so he could take over the fifth starter role. That was the only logical reason for sending him down and not Ohman or Cedeno.

Cherry has to be called up. The pen is taxed. Dempster, Howry, Cotts, and Wuertz could all be unavailable tomorrow.

=D>

But at this point, we're all assuming that Gooz was sent down to stretch out. If this isn't the case, Hendry has a lot of explaining to do.

Somethings going to have to happen tonight...

Z better pitch well tomorrow or he might have to take one for the team.

I was surprised to see this monstrosity was at 117 Premium pages when I got back from work. Extra innings explains it.

on The Score they just said, Lou wanted to keep Guzman andput Sori on the DL but was overruled. :x :x :x :x :x

Good for Hendry (I believe he wants to stretch out Gooz to start). Though this begs the question of just how healthy Soriano is.

Didn't see most of teh game because of work but that sounds right.

From what I did see, I'd add Wade Miller's pitchign to your list there.

Firefox and Opera primarily but I listen to The Score on the radio. It probably will work in IE.

Cedeno made a JV baseball mistake with that last pitch.

If game is on the line, 2 outs, 2 strikes, and the pitch is close, THEN BLOODY SWING AT IT! Foul it off at the very least. What good is fighting the pitcher for a walk gonna do? Oh yes...I remember, to get the pressure of yourself.

Good lord.

Shucks. I'm way out of market, so I can't get it on the radio. It hasn't worked in firefox or IE, and firefox didn't mention me missing a plug-in, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Oh well. Mind posting highlights? :D

These callers are hysterical! A guy just called to say the Cubs are snake bitten then he said they will win the division.

Now, some how it's Rothschild's fault.

Not missing much on the PC. He just replied with short answers and you can tell he was ticked but he did not blow up. He did say he will give Ohman opportunities to throw the ball so he has to pitch better.

Lame. He should have mentioned something about his boss being a moron.
