i picked floyd up off waivers for soriano.

that's ok, isn't it?

i'm pretty sure this is ok, but since i'm not 100%, i dumped floyd just to avoid potential problems. i moved derosa to OF and inserted theriot at 2b.

Do you only have Cubs on your team?

I'm thinking this is the first time I have ever had the lead at the close of the day. Yeah, won't last, but still a monumental occasion.

Cubs recall Pie and option Guzman to Iowa.

I know I can now move Guzman to my minor league roster since he is officially in the minor leagues. My understanding is that, since he wasn't qualified as a minor leaguer at the end of last year, that I need to move him back to the major league roster when he's recalled. Correct?

Hey Juan. Why have you switched out an offensive player? I'm not aware of any injuries to the benched player.

Quentin came off the DL.

yes, that is correct.

7) No line-up changes during the week, except for trades, a player placed on the DL, or a player benched for nagging injuries etc..., but if the player is benched he must be reserved (not on the DL). you can change your starting pitchers whenever you want.

Can you show me where it says during midweek you can take an offensive player out of your line up and insert someone who came off the DL? Because it doesn't say anything about it in the paragraph above.

Thanks. If there's any justice in the world he'll come back to start, not relieve. :D

That has always been the rule. The corollary of the rule is that if a player leaves the DL, you can re-insert him. Otherwise you would have to release the player.

You seem to be the only one who is having these problems. The reason these rules are not set in stone is to allow commonsense and reason to be used by the managers. This has worked very well for the most part. I could simply lock rosters on Monday morning but I've never felt that that was necessary.

It is quite possible I am the only one that is having issues with these rules. But, maybe I'm not. It doesn't appear as though everyone is posting in this thread or on Roadkill. Only 9 managers have voted on the poll.

I'm having a real tough time understanding what rules are what and I've been here for over a year now. We have several other managers that haven't been around as long as I have.

When I see

7) No line-up changes during the week, except for trades, a player placed on the DL, or a player benched for nagging injuries etc..., but if the player is benched he must be reserved (not on the DL). you can change your starting pitchers whenever you want..

I'm assuming that these are the only exceptions to the roster you can make. I'm probably not the only one assuming these things.

Last week, Eric Gagne came off the DL on Friday. I didn't put him in my line up until Sunday night, because I didn't realize I could take a guy off my DL midweek and insert him in my line up. He would have been replacing a guy who was injured besides that (Jesse Crain).

The problem here is that you have rules in one place, rules in another, rule changes somewhere else, discussion of changes to a rule that may or may not have been changed, rules changes that were changed again in another discussion that isn't even about rule changes, etc....

It would be convenient for everyone to have all the rules in one place for quick reference.

I'm also still waiting for you to point out to me where I can find the discussion to allow daily pitching changes and no offensive changes.

Why am I having a problem with this stuff?

Week 1: My opponent added a free agent pitcher midweek and inserted him into his line up to collect points.

Week 2: I had a guy on my DL who came off the DL and I wasn't aware that I could insert him into my line up midweek.

Week 3: You state very clearly in the quote above what offensive roster moves are allowed, and proceed to make a roster move that isn't listed as a roster move that is allowed.

I'm probably making a bigger deal out of this than I should, but I think I'm pointing out very valid concerns about what rules everyone is playing by.

I'm just asking that the rules be clarified. If I've been around for over a year and still can't grasp what rules we are playing by, how do you think our Newbs must feel? Are they all aware that you could bring a DL player back into the line up midweek? Because I wasn't.

Clarify the rules in one easy access thread.

i think some of the posted rules are old, for one thing.

i agree that it's always been the case that you can make substitutions for injuries, and that you can put a guy back in when he comes off the DL.

That's always been my understanding too. I don't think all of the rulings on questions that come up are in the rules thread; sometimes they are discussed in the thread about that week's matchups when the issue is raised.

just to clarify a little here, the idea of the rules is to avoid everyone having to make lineup changes daily due to offdays etc. The league is meant to be set your lineup on Sunday and leave it all week. We decided to allow roster moves midweek due to injuries, demotions, and the like as long as these were within the spirit of the weekly changes (ie you aren't swapping players daily). I messed up with the pitchers and created a situation I didn't want.

Generally, we have tried to use commonsense to address legal moves. When in doubt, people have asked about moves or posted questionable moves they were making for feedback.

I find myself thinking that I wished that I hadn't mentioned rotating pitchers. This is a friendly league. Yes, sometimes the rules are a bit vague, but we try to keep things fair.

It would not be the end of the world to me if we did not allow rotating pitchers. I just thought that that was the new rule.

Our old friend Steve Trachsel helps me out today. 6 ER in 3.2 IP and almost certainly negative points for my opponent after overnight deductions. \:D/

Matt Cain throws a gem with 7 innings pitched and 2 hits and 0 runs AT Colorado. He left the game with a 3-0 lead.

Colorado wins 5-3.

Have I mentioned that the Nats are not alone in their hunt to be the worst team in baseball? The Giants are jealous and want in on that action.

I don't think your move to sub in Wuertz was legal, btw.
