I adore Pat and Ron. I also liked Harry and Steve. From listening to the archives, though, I think the best team I've heard was Jack Buck and Harry Caray. Harry was still coherent and the two of them together were professional, knowledgeable, and still enjoyable to listen to.

Pat and Ron, though, are my lifeline here in St. Louis (well, now that I have WGN, the TV crew helps) and I definitely appreciate them!

What archives? Are you talking about something that's available online?

Also, you get WGN radio in St. Louis? What part? I can never pick it up in West County.

Old audio archives...KMOX used to play them sometimes, and my husband has some Jack Buck CD compilations that have Buck and Caray games on it.

You can sometimes get WGN radio in North County, and I can sometimes pull it in when I am in Clayton/UCity (where I work) if I'm in my car with the strongest tuner. They used to be on 880 AM (weird low-wattage station on the East Side) but I can't find them on it this year. I rely on MLB Audio for my Pat-and-Ronness.

Who else are classic announcers?

Ernie Harwell

Vin Scully

Milo Hamilton

Jack Brickhouse

Harry and Jimmy Piersall were the funniest guys I've EVER heard. They made the White Sox enjoyable in the late 70's and early 80's. If you know anything about those White Sox teams, you'd know what I mean.

I became a Cubs fan the summer of 82 when we finally got cable. I was able to watch the Cubs and Braves at that time and that was it. Both teams were really bad, but Harry made the games so much fun. As I got older I really came to appreciate what Steve brought with him. Harry though is why I am a Cubs fan and even more a baseball fan.

Pat and Ron are the same way. Its like going to a game with friends.

Didn't the Braves win the Western Division in '82 with Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy and Bob Horner?

I found a website today that streamed the Cubs' radio broadcast of the game. It made me feel at home. :D

My personal favorite moments are always walkoffs.

Pat: Barrett hits a drive, deep to left field...

Ron: Go!

Pat: FAIR BALL!

Ron: YES!!!!

Pat: Lee's rounding third!

Ron: COME ON!!! COME ON!!!! GO!!!!!!

Pat: Here's the throw!

Ron: GOOOOOOOOOOO!

Pat: Lee slides!!!

Ron: AUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!!!

Pat: HE'S SAFE! HE'S SAFE!! CUBS WIN!! CUBS WIN!!!!

Ron: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!! *Goes bananas*

I can't stop laughing at this, no matter how many times I read it. Color commentary at its most colorful.
