I don't think both Sean and Don will throw tomm.... not 100% sure but I think one will start and he might use a long reliever to start the other game. I know this was how it worked when Sean was in the FSL and who knows I could be wrong.... I also think both games will be 7 innings.

That makes sense ... it was a fun thought, though! :)

Ouch, so much for Atkins having a great start. Finished with 4 and a third IP allowing 2 hits, 6 runs, 1 earned, 4 Ks/1 BB and gave up a longball. Two Daytona errors helped contribute to the mess. 7-1 Vero Beach in the bottom of the 6th.

And Randy Wells was roughed up in the 1st inning in Albuquerque. 5 hits, 5 ERs, and 2 BBs in just the first inning. 5-0 Albuquerque after 1.

Might see one or two opposing players come down with some back stiffness sometime before gametime.

Randy Wells got lit up. Ouch.

3 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

Sigh. Hopefully he rebounds after a disaster start just like he did last year.

EPatt with a bases loaded RBI groundout followed by a Pie sac fly makes it 9-5 Albuquerque.

Goodness, that would be fun to watch. Maybe I need to head east tomorrow...

Valentino Pascucci and John Baker combined to go 7-for-9 with seven RBIs and six runs scored as Albuquerque outslugged visiting Iowa, 12-8, on Wednesday.

Pascucci was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs. He cranked a two-run homer in the second inning that gave the Isotopes (4-3) a 7-0 lead.

Baker, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, wound up a triple shy of the cycle. His two-run homer in the fourth gave Albuquerque an 11-5 advantage.

The Isotopes hammered starter Randy Wells for five runs in the first. After John Gall singled in the first run, Pascucci added a two-run single. Baker brought in another run with a base hit, and Reggie Abercrombie made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly. Abercrombie finished with three RBIs.

Albuquerque starter Jeff Fulchino (1-0) was the beneficiary of the onslaught. He was charged with five runs on seven hits and five walks with one strikeout over five innings. Rich Dorman yielded three runs in four frames for the save.

Wells (1-1) surrendered nine runs on nine hits over three innings. He struck out three and walked four. Ben Howard yielded three runs on four hits in three innings, and John Webb finished up with two scoreless frames.

Iowa rapped 11 hits, 10 of which were singles. Micah Hoffpauir went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Felix Pie was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. --Tim Leonard/MLB.com

DaytonaCubs.com"]Cubs Split Doubleheader with Devil Rays

Jeanine Jiannetti

[Vero Beach, FL] The Cubs split today’s doubleheader with the Devil Rays after a rainout in Vero Beach Tuesday. Daytona took game one 5-1, while Vero Beach came back to defeat the Cubs in game two 8-1.

Daytona’s first two runs came in the top of the second inning when right fielder Chris Amador hit the Cubs’ first home run of the season. Amador’s two-run shot scored Matt Matulia, who reached base with a double.

A throwing error in the sixth inning by Vero Beach second baseman Hunter Vick, scored left fielder Jesus Valdez, while an RBI single from catcher Mark Reed, scored designated hitter Jim Adduci. Amador scored the final run in the seventh inning when Valdez hit into a fielder’s choice.

Cubs 6-foot-3, 194-pound right-hander Joel Santo (1-0) received the win in game one for Daytona, looking sharp in allowing just one run on six hits in five innings. The only run for Vero Beach came in the form of an RBI double off the bat of center fielder Jackson Brennan.

Daytona leads the Florida State League in doubles (7), Adduci, Matulia, and Tyler Colvin all contributed in game one.

The Cubs dropped game two of the doubleheader to the Devil Rays, 8-1. First baseman Ryan Norwood scored the lone run for Daytona on four hits.

All eight runs for Vero Beach came in the fifth inning, when twelve Devil Rays batters advanced to the plate. Brennan dominated with five RBI on the night, four happened on one swing, as Brennan smacked a grand slam off Daytona right-hander Matt Avery (0-1).

Daytona battles Vero Beach for their final game on the road Thursday as top prospects Jeff Samardzija (0-0) and Wade Davis (0-0) are set to face off.

Des Moines Register"]Randy Wells, coming off a win at Round Rock in his first start, gave up nine runs and nine hits in three innings.

"Consistency is the name of the game," Iowa manager Buddy Bailey said. "If you want to go to the next level, you've got to be consistent. Repeat a pitch and repeat a good delivery."

Iowa scored three in the third inning, two in the fourth and three in the ninth.

"Unfortunately, a five spot went on the board (in the first), but what really hurt was the next inning when we had two out and nobody on," Bailey said. "You're one pitch away from ending the inning, but they end up scoring three.

"It's still early in the year, our pitching is going to get better. Some of the guys aren't in top pitching shape yet."

Wells needs to be in the pen, and fast.

Prior, Marshall and Mateo need to join the rotation, fast.

Not to mention Gallagher & Veal.

That could be the best rotation in the system if Mark ever gets well.
