Part two...Donnie answers a question from his mailbag, talking about Prior and Wood and how he dislikes Donnie Veal comparisons.
I don't think I'd like to be compared to myself either.

Sounds like he feels the main reason people compare him to Willis is the color of their skin. Veal says they don't throw alike. What does Veal generally throw, who would be a better comparison?

haven't been reading. any explanation for why he is completely sucking?

He hasn't been completely sucking. He isn't getting hit that hard for those numbers and has been done in pretty much just by a lot of walks and a few big innings. It's really only a matter of getting his control back.

Here are some pics & vids of Veal from his 4/24 start.

Hello everyone.

The first half of the season is officially over for professional baseball. The Southern League All-Star Game is today. The Smokies had five All-Stars this year. It was a very exciting first half for my team. We had a no-hitter, a couple Players of the Week, and a Player of the Month. We had two players -- Sean Gallagher and Billy Petrick -- get called up to the big leagues.

I've learned a lot in the first half of the season. The game really is simple, and you have to keep it that way. Throw strikes with all your pitches, and get ahead of the hitters. The rest will take care of itself. I also learned that there are a few pitchers that can actually hit at this level. You can't just throw three fastballs down the middle to most of the pitchers in the Southern League. I've seen relief pitchers come in and hit bombs. The scary thing about that is they might not get seven at-bats the whole season. I've learned that as long as you can throw more than one pitch for a strike, you can dominate any team no matter how hard or slow you throw.

The All-Star Break is a very nice three days off. I know a lot of guys that will be locked up in their apartments and you won't hear from them for three days. Some guys will go home to be with their friends and family. I know it's only three days, but when you only have 11 in the season, it feels like a whole week. Most guys need the break to rest little nagging injuries or a dead arm. We'll see what happens in the second half of the season though.

That second paragraph is very telling about his struggles this season. I'm expecting a strong second half from Donnie.
